All I really wanted out of this set up was a few extra MPG's and it looked kinda cool. I took an average of my MPG's on my bone stock 1997 159,000k 4.6L 4x4 extended cab truck and these were the numbers:
MPG's: 1 Pre Spectre CAI
22.23gallons - 159,753miles
7/03/09
21.64gallons - 160,064miles
7/09/09
22.78gallons - 160,368miles
7/17/09
22.47gallons - 160,700miles
7/21/09
Average= 14.16mpg
These are the numbers after I installed the Spectre CAI: (The truck is still bone stock for the exception of the CAI of course.)
MPG's: 2 Post Spectre CAI
23.02gallons - 169,988miles
1/20/2010
23.04gallons - 170,306miles
1/23/10
22.58gallons - 170,657miles
1/26/10
23.27gallons - 171,005miles
1/28/10
22.43gallons - 171,307miles
2/2/10
22.35gallons - 171,618miles
2/5/10
Average= 14.34mpg
Honestly this is about what I had expected. I really just wanted to do something to my truck and hoped it would be beneficial. The end result was a bit of fun installing the Mod myself but really no difference in MPG's at all. the little bit extra I did get was most likely the extra highway mileage I drove. If I had read the "gotts" mod post first I most definitely would have gone that route. Not sure if anyone cares about this post but I said that I would post the numbers so here you go =)

I also intalled one not too long ago. Actually, I've averaged pretty much exactly the same mpg as you before the install (around 14). Only driven one full tank since the install and my mileage dropped to just over 11! Could this mean that I'm running too rich or something?
I know it's early but certainly not the result I was hoping for.

Just a thought, are you getting on it more than usual? I know when I had my Lightning every mod I installed I'd tend to be more heavy on the throttle. I absolutely baby my high mileage truck and was very aware on how I was starting and stoping and everything in between. I'm just saying maybe your being a bit more heavy on the thottle and that will murder mpg's for sure. If not nevermind what I said. I am definitely not the most qualified person to answer questions on here.
Good Luck,
Adam
I'm getting ready to install a CAI on my 95 XLT w/5.0.
Only question I have is in regards to the ACS/Air Charge Sensor.
My kit has no allowance for it. Will I need to fab a hole w/seal for it?
Is it something that I can isolate and the ECM will manage when I re-boot the system via battery disconnect?
Anyone????????

Update:
The vendor sent me the correct tube with ACT sensor plug-hole.
Installed and all is well with the world.
Too early for MPG results, but ol' Red seems to have a little more pep to her step now.
I'll update when MPG results are in.
