Only change a flowmaster 40?

99 F150 scab, 5.4, 4x4

Thinking of just having the stock muffler cut out and a flowmaster 40 put in. Most here list more changes to their exhaust than just the muffler. I have heard a few on youtube and they sounded ok.

I am also wondering how tips affect the sound and what should I be looking at when thinking of adding them as well?

thanks
RJ

I've had a 40 SIDO for almost 5 years. I love it. Yes, tips make a big difference in sound. I have 3 1/2 x 18" tips. Has a nice deep sound

I always prefer a nice rolled edge tip. It gives it an echo sound and makes it a slightly louder in my opinion.

If I am not mistaken, your truck has four cats on it like mine. Unfortunately, you can not achieve a very loud system without addressing the cats. A flow 40 will change your trucks sound, and it will sound better...but do not expect it to be very loud if you have four stock cats in front of it.

Of course "loud" or "better" are strickly subjective terms here.

A coworker had 98' F-150 with the 5.4 and a Flowmaster 40 and it sounded great. I had the Flowmaster 40 on my '99 4.6 and it sounded great.

You will be happy with the 40. Like already stated, if it isn't enough sound, do something with the cats and let that 40 sing!
