Not only do you need custom tunes to keep from running lean, but you need it to take full advantage of the intake.

yeah, custom tunes for sure. Thinking of the gryphon (sp?). I see a lot of people seem to like that. Now, is it dangerous to run the intake without a tune for a little while as long as you stay out of it? My stock intake the seal around the filter is torn off.

Well, after pondering this CAI for a couple days now, I think I am going to sell it before I ever install it. I am thinking that I want to go with the complete Banks PowerPack. My hang up is that a tune always eats more gas, and I am not sure that I wanna do that at all. May end up just getting a cat back.

KingRanchCoy,

I am picking mine up today. Same exact intake!
How long did it take you to install? Anything hard about it or does it bolt right in? You didnt have to take any other parts off to install did you?
And, do you have to remove the motor cover? The black cover that says 5.4 on it?

Thanks man

ROFL, guess I should have been more specific. I realize that the tune itself is capable of better mileage. Its the right foot that wont cooperate once you get a tune. LOL

You got it... although I drive the same way. My truck accelerates faster so I am up to speed faster, but I spend less time getting up to speed which saves me gas.

It took me about a hour to install it, everything bolted in perfect, yes i removed the black cover but i bet you can put it back on after everything is bolted up. I have nothing but good things to say about this intake. Good luck and post pics when you get it installed

I went with the MagnaFlow 12258 and def. happy with it. It was a good aftermarket sound with some added performance, but its not close to obnoxiously loud(good for kids) and no off the gas crackling.

Well just ran threw my first tank of gas with this spectre intake and i am SUPER happy with my mpg. I ran it all the way empty and filled her back up. I got 430 Miles out of the tank and it took 23 gallons to fill up. By my calculations that is a average of 18.7 mpg and this is mixed Highway and City driving. I always avg 16.5 to 17.0mpg. Very pleased with this intake and i recommend it for anyone that want a little extra throttle response and better MPG
