AEM Intake mod?

Right, so any of you that has one of these trucks, can see that the snorkle goes into the fender on the stock intake.

I am guess that while my AEM intake MAY, be able to pull in more air and flow faster, it is NOT getting all the air from the fender hole like the stock intake was.

So,
I was wondering, ( not that I have time to do this right now ) IF there was a way to seal the AEM intake box I have, and have the air only coming from the fender.

This would in theory, provide a fair amount of air, that Is colder than what I would have been getting.

Sealing the top of the box by wielding a plate on to it, and using rubber trim around it so that it can only get air from the fender hole.

OR

It could be a very bad idea, and reduce flow and not drop the IAT much if at all.
