Switching from MBRP to Flowmaster

Well I had been thinking about it but yesterday cemented my decision to switch from MBRP. My wife was gone in my truck and left me painting the bedroom of our soon to be newborn. The bedroom is in the front of the house about 30 ft from the driveway. Never heard hear pull in until I heard the garage door. Got it this past February but it never was as loud as I wanted it. Wanted Flowmaster anyway but they didn't have SS at the time.

My old 4.6 F-150 had original 40s on it and I am going back to flowmaster. Just can't seem to figure out which of the 40 series I want. Was set on Original 40s but after talking to Darren am 50/50 between originals and Super 44s. Youtube hasn't helped because the sound about the same. Have searched and searched this site and the split is about 50/50 on recommendations. Nobody does any real work with the Super 44 around here so I can't get a first person comparison. Anybody switched from originals to Super 44 or vice versa that could give a good reason why?

Either the Standard 40 or Super 44 will sound fine.

Original 40 deeper and better rumble! 44 higher pitched and more raspy sound to it. Both are about the same volume.

you could always try swapping the cats to high flow units to make the truck louder. it would be cheaper than new exhaust. the MBRP cat back is a quality piece. i think it's a shame to get rid of it.

how are those MBRP gas systems? Ive installed quite a few of their diesel systems and they are CRAP in the fit/finish department. Flowmaster systems seem to fit ok but must be welded to keep pipes from turning and such I find..

I'm not switching the whole system. Just the muffler. I'll get a SS piece of intermediate pipe fabbed(SP?) to match make up the length difference. The plan right now is to spend about $80 to get the Flowmaster muffler but keep the MBRP muffler. I have already checked into hi flows and it would cost me $250 installed. Eventually I will put high flows on and if that is too loud I will switch the Flowmaster back out for the MBRP.

In all the people I've talked to about the MBRP I don't think one person has managed to get their SIDO to line up correctly. Including me. I managed to get the horizontal to match or the vertical to match but never both. I gave up.

I have the SISO sytem on my 05 and it went on beautifully. the SIDO's would require some tweaking i'm sure to get the sides even, but that's probably true of most dual exit systems.

The SI/DO must be quieter than the SI/SO if you couldn't hear her pull in. Regarding the fit and finish of the SI/SO, I never had an issue. Here's a terrible quality video of mine. I think it's pretty loud.

Actually people have been complaining because they don't know what to get me for Christmas so I decided that I am asking for money towards a hi flow cat install instead of buying the muffler. I'll do that first because I wanted to do that anyway. Then I'll see if I still want to do Flowmaster.
