Neede exhaust recomendations

Hello everyone.

My truck has had a cracked passenger side manifold for over a year now, and the driver side has now cracked as well. I had been fixing them with that manifold putty stuff but finally decided it was time to just go ahead and replace everything.

Here is my situation. I need a system that will compliment my trucks towing ability and also be quiet. I have been reading though all the exhaust posts and it seems all everyone is trying to make thier truck LOUDER.

My truck spends about 90% of it's life pulling a 24' enclosed trailer (I usually roll the scales around 16,000 lbs), our trips range from 6 and 24 hours long and we drive straight though, so having an exhaust I cannot hear in the cab is very important to me (as well as the kids trying to play thier video games).

Idealy I was looking at the Dynatech LT system with maybe a magnaflo SISO, however my budget is more in the $1000 range, not $2k, so I was hoping to pull experience from the crowd here on other options.

Thanks in advance for the input!

you could run long tubes, pacesetter for around $500, and a (if you dont want it loud) long magnaflow muffler 22 or 24" (not 100% sure on magnaflows length)

wow, with all the OGs in this forum I was expecting more responses.

I like the idea of Pacesetter LT headers, I'm still up in the air on a muffler. Trying to balance the quiet/performance aspect.

What about cats? Are high flow cats all that necessary? There was one post where the guy claimed that the stock ones flowed just fine, any additional imput on this? I know it would help keep it quiet if it wasn't too reatrictive.

What about a SISO vs. SIDO? I like the idea of the SIDO going straight out the back, thinking it would be quieter then the SISO going out the side.

If you are going through the trouble to fix the exhaust manifold and are the least bit interested in headers, do it. I myself want long tubes for power and noise gains, but a nice set of shorty headers I guess sound louder, no power gained though. As far as a good exhaust, kinda quiet, get a Magnaflow with like said a big muffler, 20 something inch.

Sounds like you've got a good plan, LT's with a SISO setup will give you the best towing performance. You will also need a set of hi-flow cats (LT's like to melt OEM cats). If you install the LT's yourself and have a shop build you a SISO while you buy the muffler, Y-pipe, and tip, it should come in right under $1000.
