chop exhaust from muffler back 07 F150

My exhaust needs to be replaced from the muffler back (so the last 2 feet with the hump over the axle.

I was going to get a cat back but realized I cant at this point, and I was wondering if I can just chop it off at the first mount past the muffler (havent looked yet so dont know exactly where, all I know is that I want the stock muffler and it doesnt appear damaged). Does that do anything by dumping the exhaust under the truck? (discoloration, CO2 issues, etc.)

I dont really want to get a new stock pipe made and the aftermarket exhaust is not in the cards right now. Looking for a middle ground.
