Good quiet muffler?

Is it possible to get any performance from a quiet muffler?
And why the hell are factory mufflers so big?? Damn thing's huge!

I leave for work at 5:20AM and like my neighbors.
Can anyone link me to a good quality 1-in, 2-out system, that is quiet....

I don't care to hear my 4.6 screaming for mercy when I'm doin 75-80 on my way to work.
Thanks, Marc B.

If im wrong, please someone tell me, but i believe all "performance" mufflers are made to be loud, but i do believe you can buy silencers for your exhaust to make it quieter, or maybe even a resinator(sp?). Sorry if that didn't help.

I would look into a 22" magnaflow si/do... I would highly recommend Lous Custom Exhuast in Brockton bud... they did my truck. I paid 550 for a si/do 14" magnaflow (Part # 12198) 14 gauge piping and have it exiting 45'd with SS 4"x18" rolled Edge tips. Prolly the best shop around here. You would want part # 12588

Here it is on their site
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...e=main&id=8061
and here is where you could order if from

I just used what the shop had... If you want, maybe at some point let me know if you want to look at the system on my truck. I can meet you at my work and you can see if it is something you would like.

There is a guy selling a roush LEGAL muffler single in/do that would be an awesome choice, and rare find. The legal is not very loud at all but sound much better then stock.

I have a 18" Magnaflow. I tow a travel trailer often so I did not want to hear it under load all the time on those long family trips. It is slightly louder than stock but with a deeper note and rumbles nice if you really step on it. If you want something that sounds stock then like John said the 22" will be what your looking for.

You may want to look at the Gibson Extreme Dual Exhaust System... It will give a nice sound when starting and when you step on it, but there is no drone and you can carry on a conversation or listen to music in the cab without shouting or turning up the volume... While cruising at a constant speed you will not notice it... I like this system...

Be sure that you get the stainless system, it come with a limited lifetime warranty...

I have the 24 inch Magnaflow on my rig, and it does not sound like stock. As far as I am concerned it is plenty loud. Very quiet at idle and cruising at 70 mph. Around 1500 to 2000 rpms when accelerating you can really hear it. It might be what you are looking for. When I got the truck it had a 40 series Delta Flow Flowmaster on it. Way to loud when starting cold and too much drone. Hope this helps.

I have the 22" SI/SO on mine, and it is the same volume as stock at idle, and only slightly louder at WOT. The note, though, is more "muscular" throughout the range, with a deeper in tone than stock.

The 22 is a little too quiet for me most of the time, but when I'm towing, I'm kind of glad for it. I think an 18" would have been "just right" for my 90% everyday driving. Maybe the 24" which is longer, but smaller in diameter would have been the best compromise for me, since it is said to be about 20% louder than the 22.

If you want quiet, you probably want a single out system.

Not totally... The si/do will be a bit louder but it looks better IMO and is not that much of a difference at all volume wise.
