Question installation cost?

I have been calling around town to get estimates on a SI/DO system with stainless tips and a flowmaster 40 series muffler (thats what everyone around here carries). Everyone is around $350 to $370.

Should I look else where because this seems a little high to me?

Will I save money by going on ebay and buying a muffler and the tips?

You can get a Flowmaster 44 from performance peddler for around 60ish...then just buy some SS tips from online/ebay/where ever is cheapest...i got mine online for around 20 a piece...then just have the shop bend the pipe and a few welds. I think with parts, labor, and everything my set up ran around 180. But i have dual out the same side in front of the tire. With duals out the back will run more b/c of more pipe. Hope this helps. I got mine done at Big Als muffler.

Thats actually a pretty fair price. I would buy a different muffler though, Super 44 to be exact. Only Flowmaster worth buying.

i'm in woodbridge va, and i keep getting quotes like 500 - 550 for the whole deal (muffler, tips, bent piping and welding)

only problem i'm having is finding someone who doesn't do crush bending

for 500-550 is that including mandrel bent SS piping? I tried to find someone down here that could do mandrel bending but came up with no good luck. But if its just standard mufflershop pipes, SS tips, muffler (depending on type), welding, still seems a little high. Are you buying them all from one place?

That's what mine was ($550)... smooth bent, 14" si/do 12198 maggie and SS 4" x 18" rolled edge tips 45'd behind rear tires. Up north this stuff tends to cost a bit more.

Are you just calling Muffler shops only? Maybe try some performance shops in your area. Also head to a "cheaper" side of town...not sure how big Roanoke is, but I know here in Houston a service like this in one area of town cost twice as much as opposed to another side of town. Also do a search for some local car club forums and see where those guys go. Most of my hook-ups on getting good prices came from my Mustang days and the local Mustang sites. Good luck.

my second setup, weld on cats, y-pipe, single muffler and tip that I had collected up with them just supplying and bending the pipe, all in all maybe less than 12 feet of pipe, 330.00 out the door. My first setup with different shop, with them supplying two tips, two super 40's and supplying and bending pipe for my dual setup, 780.00 freaking dollars and they crushed the heck out of them pipes.

Flowmaster setups in my neck of the woods run about $300 but you may want to consider a SS cat-back because I assume you get about the same weather as I do and I've had two flowmasters in the past rot out. Each lasted about 2-3 years.
