Headers question
Headers question
hey guys,
so i might be in the market for some headers and have previously heard good things about dynatech longtube headers.
after looking on the dynatech website i see that they have 3 options
122-622100A FORD F150 04-Up 4WD 5.4L SUPERMAXX HEADERS ONLY (Use w/ 122-622100B or 122-622100C) $859.99
122-622100B FORD F150 04-Up 4WD 5.4L SUPERMAXX INTERMEDIATE TUBES WITH CATS $634.99
122-622100C FORD F150 04-Up 4WD 5.4L SUPERMAXX INTERMEDIATE TUBES (NON CATTED) $499.99
those say intermediate tubes, have they stopped making longtubes? i see that troyer is still selling them for the astronomical price of $1,400
anyone know whats up?
is it even worth it for me to do headers to begin with? i already have true duals

Those are the long tube headers , the intermediate tubes is what runs between the end of the header and the front of your muffler

as 05crewzer stated, the entire Dynatech kit with cats and pipes is a hair under $1500, its all t-304 and lifetime warrantied. Well worth the price, and is cheaper than buying the cats & headers and having a shop use mandrel t-304 tubing.

I have been looking at that same set for about two weeks now. My exhaust manifold went out on me and I decided to go with long tubes. Past my researching and talking to people to verify I will still pass emissions/inspection in Pa, it has also been very hard for me to part with $1400 plus (according to the local exhaust shop), between 3-5 in labor.
However.....They're what I decided to go with at this point. Didn't realize they had a lifetime warranty and that makes it alot easier for me. My last decision is whether to spend the $260 additional for ceramic. Takes an additional 10 days for shipment and I'm not sure is worth the money. One more thing to think about I guess

what brand are you thinking of getting?
after looking at the exhaust manifolds today, man is that a pain in *** job. im mechanically inclined and i dont know how i would be able to get the nuts off to get the headers off. does anyone know if someone has ever done a write up?
oh also btw looking at my exhaust i saw that the exhaust shop put my x pipe and dual mufflers near the rear axle after telling them i wanted the in the middle. Should i have it re-done and have them put in the middle? i have read on hear you get more torque depending on where you put them

Dynatech.....There are people on here who have put long tubes on themselves and the general concensus seems to be that they are in fact a pain. Can't tell you the last time I've had to take a vehicle to a shop but this is a job I don't think I really feel like dealing with.
where are you guys buying dynatech from? jconna i saw you said ceramic, i can not find anywhere where you can change to different types.
i mean getting the cats out and that pipe with the o2 sensors in them wouldnt be hard but then i have not idea of how to get the nuts off for the headers.
it seems like the easiest way would to be to pull the engine out but i doubt it because people do it with the truck sitting there

I'm in the process of installing the Troyer Dynatech long tube headers and cat's right now. My truck is a 2004 FX4 with 40,000 miles and so far the installation hasn't been as bad as I expected. I've spent about 14 hours so far and if it wasn't for one frozen exhaust manifold stud on the passenger side I would be finished. I think I may have to drill out the stud. The instructions provided with the kit are great and the driver's side header went on quite easily. Once you remove the starter and the wheel wells, the passenger side is very easy to access. I ended up cutting the old exhaust into pieces with a sawzall because all the nuts and bolts were completely rusted. The kit includes everything you need and the headers appear to be constructed quite well.
