Ridiculous Price from muffler shop.

I have an 05 FX4. I just ordered 2 mag high flows, an x pipe and 2 18" mag muffler along with 2 18" tips. I am in Austin, TX and have been looking for an exhaust shop to do the install for me. I currently have the stock cats going to a single in single out muffler.

During my search I read several good reviews about a place called mufffin mufflers. I called them today and explained what I was looking for. Essentially just removal of current exhaust and install of the parts I have purchased. I wanted all pipes to be 2.5". I asked if this is something they could do and his reply was "we have been in business for over 40 years, I'm sure we can handle it." He proceeded to tell me that he doesnt sell mag high flows anymore because they will cause the O2 sensors to throw a check engine light. I let him know that wasnt a worry of mine. Then he let me know that they wouldnt warranty the install. I explained that was completely understandable.

I asked if he knew what I could be looking at for a price. He paused for a while and told me it would be right at $500. I said thank you and quickly hung up.

To me this is insane. I gathered from the conversation that he was trying to un-sell me.

Two questions.

1. Anyone in the Austin area that could recommend a decent exhaust shop?

2. I hope someone can confirm that this price is way more than it should be.

$500?

Guy sounded like a jerk anyway. The ones that do that are the ones that want you to buy the stuff they sell.

I got everything installed on mine (new piping that they bent, high flows, x crossover, dual mufflers) for $160.

I went to a place on south lamar, let me see if i can find the name. Just a little shop that charged me half of what a bigger shop was asking.

A jerk would be a compliment to him. I forgot to mention how he was debating with me over whether or not my truck had two or four cats.

Guy- "Your truck has four cats so that will increase the cost"
Me - "It actually has two"
Guy - "You removed two of your cats?"
Me - "No it has only ever had two"
Guy - "This isn't the first F150 I have worked on, everyone I have seen has four cats."
Me - "That's fine but I'm not calling to ask you how many cats my truck has"

Wow, that muffler guy is an idiot. At least he thinks he knows everything.

Maybe he needs another muffin.

thanks! As i stated in my post in my thread, i had one shop quote me 350 then i went down the street literally a mile north from Hwy 290 and found that shop.

The original shop saw a nice F150 that was cared for and they assumed i was stupid with my money and he wanted to charge me extra, way more then was fair.

Let me know how you like the place. Its set back about 100 yards from Lamar (east side of the street) so you might drive right past it if you arent looking for it

Did you tell him that you would be supplying all the critical parts? He was probably under the impression that they had to buy everything.

I did explain it to him. I let him know I had all the parts and I wanted a removal of my current exhaust. I told him I already had all of the parts and listed them to him like I did in my original post. I think he just didnt want to mess with it.
