damp passenger floor, cat issue?
damp passenger floor, cat issue?
I have the Ford f150 deep well, rubber mats in all four spots in the truck. Of those 3 are dry on the backside, but the front passenger side. I originally posted this in the body section as a possible leak or condesation from the a/c, but I am sure that this is not the case. It has not rained and I have not needed the a/c for a while. I checked again yesterday and the backside of the mat was soaked with water droplets and the carpet is starting to produce mold. Again, I am now very, very sure that this is not a leak or moisture is being introduced from the interior. The floor feels damp, but will dry in no time (overnight) with the mat removed.
I now am pretty sure that this is a condensation build from the heat of the cat and or exhaust pipe below. There is a heat sheild in that area and there seems to be insualtion there as well.
I dont think that this is normal, nor has it happened for the 4 1/2 years I have had the truck. Could there be an issue in the cat, muffler or something else? The truck is a 2004 5.4l flairside fx4. I just turned 100k miles and drive a lot of highway and get into stop and go traffic periodically.

well huh. i got husky liners in my truck and i've been finding wet floor and water droplets under the drivers mat. i'm pretty sure i fixed my window leak and i still get the water. hopefully theres some truth to your cat idea. another reason to have them removed
That sounds like a leak, I am not sure about your truck, but I dont think that there is any exhaust below the drivers side.
I had the same thing on my 97. Drivers side. RunbberMaid mats Second cats were removed. I just figured I spilled a beer the night before.
Really I just figured that it was from me getting in and out as the passenger side was fine. Doesnt matter much to me but I dont know if I can help you guys figure it out. Mine was never bad enough to mold, I never noticed it before my Body Lift, might have been the floor shifter for the 4x4.

make sure your AC drain tube isnt clogged, and you can follow the TSB steps to insure that it doesnt back track into the cab once you are driving, by installing the rubber elbow

I had the same problem, in the same footwell, in my 06 about six months ago. Had no problems prior either. Turned out to be the AC leaking back in. I had the dealer repair it (TSB) and replace the rug since it was still under warrantee. No problems since!
lucky getting new carpet. i want to replace my carpet with vinyl!
well the TSB is technically 04-08 trucks but knock yourself out. The drain on the 97-03 can still clog up, dont ask me how i know
