PA Law?
PA Law?
Does anyone know for sure what the PA law is in regards to the Catalytic coverter? I'm getting either conflicting information, or local inspection shops simply not knowing how to interpret the law. Truck is a 2004 F-150.
I have decided to order the dynatech long tube header kit this Friday to resolve my cracked manifold issue. Going for broke (literally) I guess. Looking forward to getting them on and moving forward with a couple other upgrades though so I guess I got the bug. I don't know if I'll put a CAI on it next or simply go with the gryphon. Open to any suggestions on that point.
Anyway....Back to the headers. The kit comes with two high flow cats but no-one seems to have a good understanding if that makes it acceptable to remove the original? Anyone have any experience with this?

Please excuse the constant questions on this header system....I really don't know much about the subject and have yet another question. Just want to be straight so that I'm not screwing up by ordering something that isn't going to work for me. Looking at the Dynatech kit, the midpipe appears to only have two cats on it vs. the four you say I need to be legal. Do I or can I add 2 cats farther back? Do I need to use a different midpipe with 4 cats?

Provided they will do it.....I am thinking of having them remove the original cat as I have 70,000 on it now and should easily have 80 by the time inspection is due again. Thoughts / Opinions on any of this?

Seriously....I didn't think my question was that stupid...I want to order this header system but it only has one cat on each side. Is there a way I can make it work (and stay PA legal), or do I need to keep shopping??
man relax haha. people are busy on the weekends you know.
back on subject, you can use the 2 cats that come with your headers and 2 of your stock cats. the shop should be able to do it all with no problems. you will need to have bungs welded in for the 02 sensors as well.

Sorry about the testiness....Has been a rough week or two. Started out with pulling a dump trailor for my neighbor without realizing my 2" ball wasn't the correct size so when I gave it a little bump to get the material flowing, the tongue came off the ball and smashed my tailgate. So then I get home and open my laptop only to have the screen practically disconnect from the keyboard, my primary PC which I was using as a music machine over the weekend appears to have had it's video card go bad on me, and the biggest kicker over the last two weeks has been working with the police and insurance company after having someone burglarize the house while my roomate and I were at work. They didn't take alot and what they did take points to a younger crowd but it still sucks and I guess it all has me a little short right now. So that was a little off topic but point being....I'm simply pretty frustrated with trying to understand what I can and can't do with this exhaust. If it's me not understanding what you're telling me than I'm sorry. This damn exhaust leak (noise) is one more thing driving me crazy and I just want to get it done. Unfortunately for everyone that has to keep on reading this....I'm still lost! Sorry for the rant and back to topic
I spoke with my inspection shop and they didn't appear to care if I replaced my primary catalytic converter or not so I will plan on replacing this with a high flow cat. (So I'm finally OK in that section)
However....I am still utterly and completely confused with these damned converters up front of the Y on my original. I have not climbed under the truck but I trust when I've been told the 2004 has 4 (2 on each side).
The header set I am looking at only has 1 on each side and I'm not sure of my options? Scrap the system I'm looking at? Modify it? Use the headers but don't get the midpipe section? (I don't see room on the purchased set for an exhaust shop to add the additional required) Too many options for my brain at the moment and I'm just getting frustrated.
