What do I do now??
I just very recently put a body lift on my truck. Well now as you can imagine my exhaust pipes look really stupid 3inches lower. They were really close to the bedside, as that is how I initially wanted them some 2 years ago when I got them put on. Anyhow, I dont know if I should chop them right as soon as they go over the axle or what? The shop where I got my exhaust totally screwed me when it comes to chopping them to make turn downs because they ran my driver side pipe like 1/4inch away from the spare. If I chop it then I will have exhaust blowing right at the spare basically. SO I am wondering what to do now.. I had thought about chopping them before the axle but I have heard that it totally takes away from the exhaust because it is all under the truck. At the time that I installed my exhaust I had no idea what would look good so I kinda did my own thing and got it done, but now since I HAVE to do something about it I was wondering what you guys think I should do. Should I chop the darn things and call it quits, try another design, or try to get them raised 3 inches??

So a chop and turndown for the driver side will not work due to the spare tire being in the way? What if you were to try an exit before the pass side tire? Where are your mufflers located currently in regards to your rear axle?
Would it still sound as good just coming out of one side? I really like how it sounds.. wish it was louder, but as is sounds really good.
Haha thanks man. I am going to post a picture up of how the morons that put my exhaust on ran my driver side like a 1/4inch from my spare. I just dont want them to be shooting exhaust at my spare.
Right. My mufflers are located almost exactly under the 3rd door. I am sure a pipe could be bent to fix make it come out that one side, but I am unsure of how good it will look.
I am considering, I hope it dont cost very much because I may just decide to do it the free way which is cutting them off.

I dont know that I can chop these or where I would if I did. What do you guys think. I am thinking about getting it done today.. maybe tomorrow. I cant stand that look. I liked it alot when they were even with the bedside, but they never stayed chrome(always muddy, and hard as heck to clean).
You can see here how close they ran that pipe. Keep in mind that is not a full sized spare.

They also took it upon themselves to make a really weird angle out of this pipe so If I chopped it, it would almost be shooting up at the bed.

your last picture, where the pipe shoots up towards the bed, have the shop cut it at the beginning of that bend shooting it up and put a straight piece and then turndowns over the axle, same with the passenger side as well, or u might find some pipe at one of your favorite local parts stores and do it your self, not sure if you have access to a welder but clamps can hold it as a temp thing, until you get to a shop.
Based off of the 3rd picture. What would you say to me cutting the pipes when they are both at their highest point? Maybe just cutting them to where they shoot downwards somewhat?? One of them would be a couple inches longer than the other but no one else would know but me so I dont care really. All I want to know is what bad could come out of it. How would it affect the sound of the exhaust? Or would it not at all?
Then you will lose your nice sound throw, I would pay the fix price regardless, but thats just me. To me a real truck has dual tips.
Well crap. You have no idea how close I came to chopping them off. If I am going to lose sound then I am not doing it. I dont particularly have to have huge chrome tips sticking out the back end to be happy with it, but I payed alot for stainless steel tips so looks like them things are staying.
Not sure on losing sound, heck when I had my dual super 40's 45'd out the back the sound was loud, then in preparation for my new exhaust and a few cruddy welds breaking on my hangers for my pipes I cut off the pipes from the mufflers back, still under my back seat but it was definitely louder in and out of the cab, some say they aren't but have they actually run with that setup or are they parroting someone else's views? I have, and its louder, my wife and kids who could care less about my truck and what I have done to it said it was much louder for the two weeks I had it that way. In your case if the rest of your setup looked like that crushed up pipe on the back half, I agree with the rest and say get a new setup, and I too have no mullet...as the hair is thinning...
Well I went to an exhaust shop, and my set-up is COMPLETELY different now. Chopped off all that crap pipe, and even got rid of the super40's. The guy there was a really good salesman because he sold me on dynaflex max-flow mufflers. I now have dynaflex with 3" turndowns right before axle. I loved the super40's still have them but they reside in the toolbox at the moment
. I have to say boy is it loud in and out. My dad compares it to the sound of a true dual GT mustang. When it shifts out of overdrive going down the highway it sounds like a hot rod is flying by (almost)... needless to say its intense. Some of you are going to be disappointed in me because I got rid of my flowmasters, but I can always slap it back on when I want to anyhow. So far I love it. Kinda like getting a new exhaust for the first time. Its that much of a change.
