Thoughts, question on torque when building a MONSTER exhaust

Ok, so I had a thought about doing the same system on my '08 as I had on my '03. What we did was this:

Removed stock stuff @ the midpipe, took the remaining midpipe material and made a hole in the factory crossover (instant, free H pipe, pressure is equalized no biggie) welded said OE leftovers into the hole and made it and the leftover midpipe about six inches long, dual original 40 Flows and BANGO! That SOB was scare gramma at the nursing home loud! Now the question is would a custom tune be able to compensate for lost LET, because on my '03 the grunt was noticeably less, but I want something that'll pull off the line good and beat the fart pipe kids. When it's done you only have about eighteen inches of exhaust and with it welded up solid you dont even need muffler hangers at the back.

Oh and fair warning, this exhaust set up is NOT for the meek, or those that dont want drone, I couldnt even hear the radio over that thing.

Ha! I would run open headers, but I'm afraid I'd suck a valve. Out here in West Texas they really dont give a damn how loud you are!

take your truck to a shop and have run duals with an H-pipe if that's what you want

why dont you do true dual straights. leave the converters alone or replace them with hi flows, then run you Hpipe and get after it!

thats what i did on my 2002 4.6 and it was great loud!

That's not exactly true, I know a couple of people who got tickets from OPD (both in school zones, one on Golder in front of OHS and the other on Maple) citing a "anti-noise ordinance". They will ticket trucks but they never take a second look at the Harley-style bikers running open exhausts.

I wouldn't count on a programmer to return low end torque. Where you make your torque in the RPM band directly correlates to how far the collectors on the headers are from the manifold. Trucks, which typically develop their torque in the lower RPM ranges are designed with short style headers to facilitate this. If you spend all day above 3000 RPMs or want to race, then you may want to consider long tubes. You realize gains in the long tubes at the top of the spectrum. Typically the toque and HP curves of long tubes is a little longer too. What the programmer will do is firm up (shorten) your shifts which can dramatically reduce your 0-60 times.

Who knew? I havent had anyone from OPD look at me yet... Of course my exhaust is still a work in progress... As of right now, I just have one flow at the midpipe where the stocker was bolted up, not super loud, yet... Still debating on headers. There isn't a lot of room to get in there and work on the 4x4's...
