Thanks... I think the paint like you say wears out. I have SS tips so I wash them weekly with the truck and when I feel them get a bit bumpy from road crap.. I hit them with NEver Dull. Stuff works amazing and then I polish them. BTW... ROush does make a side exit kit.. a few people have it.

Would it sound like complete chit if I just dumped my current setup over the axle? I'm just a little curious how the 40s would sound dumped. If I don't like it it won't matter I'll be replacing them anyway, but if it won't sound good or would be obnoxiously loud I'll let it be until I replace it.

It would probably sound decent. I'm not a fan of dumped exhausts but if you go over the rear axel you will keep the drone down.

Also... dumping exhausts reduces the sound outside a bit because it goes under the truck... I would exoect a tad more interior resonance... it is just hard to say just how much of an increase. It would def not be as bad as when people do it under the cab

Your tips get dirty? With those slpash guards and tucked in angle didn't think it was possible Mine are trashed, they need alot of work, but I could care less.

Mine get a tad dirty... usually onyl from rain and light road grime... The truck is washed at least once a week so it barley gets too bad at all.

And thnks... I caught that. I do learn from the best tho bud

Okay so I took a few pictures and was hoping you guys could help me set straight what I've got at the moment. I'm uploading a video to Youtube and it should be done in 30.

Pretty sure it's the stock exhaust manifold considering how old it looks. Each side comes down to its own cat. The driver's side then takes a 90 degree turn to meet up with the passenger side, where it then takes another 90 degree turn towards the bed. The pipes run into two SI/SO 40 series Flowmasters and out the back at 45s.

Driver's side

From under driver's side door

From under driver's side backseat door

I've been looking at the Roush Offroad more now with high-flow Maggie converters. How much more louder would the SLPs (LM and LM2) be over the Roush with high-flows? How would the Bullets compare? I really like how Weazel's setup sounds. It's just so aggressive.

I really want a DIY install (clamps--at least for now) and get it welded later simply for convenience. How long does an install usually take a shop if I make an appointment? A few hours? My other issue would be that I'm running true duals now and the Roush is a SI/DO. It seems to me that it would be easier to just change out the mufflers, especially running duals. Need to add an x-pipe, too, and I'm guessing the only place with room for it would be right before the mufflers.

Either way I go, though, I'm adding an X-pipe, so I'll have to take it to a shop to install because I doubt the piping I have now would line up right. May as well replace the cats since I'll probably end up going to a shop.

Sorry guys for all this there are just way too many choices. I really want to hear some of these in person. Videos don't do justice.

You will want your X pipe right up infront immediatley aftyer both ppes meet, do NOT have the X right before the mufflers that is too far back.

I would only swap mufflers also. Roush with hi-flows may be a pinch louder than the SLPs, SLPs with hi-flows are massivly louder than the Roush kit though, if you haven't heard FX4life's videos yet, his truck roars over the guy with the roush & hi-flows.

1hr or so since you not having an entire system fabbed. I would gve the SLP LMs, or Dynomax Bullets a try.

Okay, for the X-pipe look at the fourth picture that's about where the pipes come together after the driver's side 90 deg. turn. Is that enough room or will the shop have to bend new pipe to make it work? It's no big deal either way, just curious.

Since I am only replacing mufflers would it be worth it to look into headers? Now would be the time since I just sent my Edge into Bill to convert to a Gryphon. I could email/call and let them know I'm installing headers. Worth it for me or no?

Once I figure out what exactly I want to do I guess I'll give a local shop a call and see what they would have to do as far as new piping and the total cost for install. I definitely want at least new piping bent to duals straight out the back. I'm tired of cleaning my painted tips. Plus that would give me a chance to scuff some up while they're off and paint them real good. The ones I have now were welded on so I couldn't take them off to paint them.

Thanks for the help, Darren.

Hey i agree with you on two many options, and not getting to truly hear what they sound like. Videos help a lot i agree, but just can't do justice to what they really sound like. Right now I'm on the same path trying to get mine louder. Can't wait to hear yours when you have it all said and done.

Right back at ya, big man.

For FX4life's setup (see here), I like his H-pipe setup over his X-pipe setup. But he also installed high-flow cats and put in the 2 1/4" piping. How much difference would the pipe (H vs X) make if I kept the 2.5" piping?

Once I figure that out I think I'll hold off on the headers (more work than I want to deal with right now). All I'll have to worry about is the bullet vs loudmouth deal.

Bah I never knew there was so much to exhaust systems. I just looked at MHockeys youtube vids and my Flows aren't nearly as loud as his. Am I right in thinking he cut out his cats completely and then dumped the exhaust? Is that why his sounds so much louder?

Here is from MHockey on one of his youtube videos.

No cats
Coming from the headers to a y pipe
single inlet and then dual outlet muffler
going to duals with 3"X18" tips

I'm pretty sure he has flowmaster 40 series on. Which is what darren and a few others said mine looks like. I know one thing mine is no were near as loud.

As long as the X pipe is close to right after where the pipes merge side-by side after where the original Y was it'll be alright. Dont have them right up to where the mufflers are.

As for headers, it depends what type you want, longtube or shorty, I would vote no on the header change, unless you putting longtubes with hi-flow cats in I wouldn't even bother with the headers.

In person will for sure always sound better, but it also helps if you have the right sound equipment. My videos sound exactly how my truck does in person, with tone and loudness, the trucks just a pinch clearer sounding in person. I use a Sony HD camcorder and have my home theatre system connected to my computer with a 5spk system and a 8" sub
