installed intake and engine light came on
Ok, so i just installed a aem brute force intake on my truck. 04 5.4L. right away the check engine light comes on. sometimes it will go off for a couple days but then come on again. wondering if there is anything i can do to fix this.
04s came from the factory in a near lean condition. Quite often, any extra airflow will cause one to run lean. A damaging situation and not something to play with. You should get a tuner with custom tunes that will modify the air/fuel mixture range. Too, you really can't take advantage of a CAI without a custom tune anyway. Get an Xcal3 or a Gryphon and then you will be safe.

I've got an 04 with the AEM Brute Force intake. I also had the check engine light come on. Do you have the trouble codes?
My solution to the constant lean condition...
1- Bought Superchips tuner.
2- Cleaned throttle body
3- Cleaned MAF sensor - if you have the oiled AEM filter...the oil will foul your MAF and regular cleaning is needed.
Cleaning my MAF and throttle body solved my rough idle/stalling problem and have no codes. If I get codes PO172/4..then I clean my MAF...codes go away.
Changed my plugs this past weekend...after 149K on the OEM set....probably could of gone another 100K on them...but hey....why not break a few off in the the engine and have some fun
. I thank the folks at Lisle for one sweet tool and one very easy plug change.
