exhaust input

97 F150 4.6 V8 Automatric.
The rear 2 cats are removed the pipes then go into a 40series flowmaster then exits in to dual out to each side of the back. So single 2.5 in and dual 2.5 out.

Sounds really nice, but at 65 or 70 it's really loud at time in the cabin.

I wanted to redue the exhaust and here is my thought:

keep the 2 back cats off, run a true dual exhaust with a H pipe into 2 bullet mufflers that are of course straigh through, but from what I hear still give you that nice low tone sounding rumble. Then of course keep the dual exit in the back on each side.

My input I need is this:

1) will the set up with the bullets and H pipe be louder than with my flowmaster, specially when crusing at 55-70mph?

2) what size bullets should I go with? I know they have diffent sizes.

3) if I place them further back, thought I could since they are round, would that keep things a bit quieter in the cabin?

4) thoughts on something that still sounds mean when getting on the throttle but not a throning when cruising at 55-70 mph.

thanks for any input. like I mentioned, I like the sound of the flowmaster, but at times it's annoying crusing at 65 on longer trips.

I still want soemthing that does the V8 justice.

If you have clips of a similar set up feel free to post the link.

few guys on here are running dual bullets and H pipe. you can keep ur piping at 2.5" and run 2 bullets that way. itll be louder than ur 40 series without a doubt, but a better loud. deep and not tin can sounding. and ull want to order the 12" bullets. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WLK-24215/

but the mufflers as far back as possible, to cut down on the drone in the cab.
you can check out my video, i have a single bullet with all 4 cats, 45 degrees out the back. i cant find the guys who have the set up you want, hopefully then chime in.

Oh yeah, it will be louder. I went from a 40 to my current exhaust with an H-pipe and 2 Magnapacks, and the interior noise went way up. 65-80 really isn't bad at all, just a low pitched hum. If you want it quieter, use an X-pipe and mount the mufflers as far back as you can.

Also, 2.25 inch pipes will provide the best performance while 2.5 inch pipes will sound slightly better, very slightly.

Well from how the OP is explaining the loud sound at highway speed that he dislikes, and how loud his exhaust is already, I would say he would be better off with the 18" long Bullets.. About equal to the sound he has now, with a lower drone note.

you're saying going from the stock 2.5 to 2.25 dual will get more HP? Seems like that would add some restriction. Are you saying to go smaller to add some backpressure since using only 2 cats and the straight through race bullets?

so overall the systam will be louder...hopefully more will chime in with some clips....a deeper better souding sound is what I want, but i'm not sure i want it louder than the 40 series at normal speeds.

Other thing, i have always heard if you move the mufflers back fruther you loose more of that aggresive sound since the exhaust has less to travel through after the muffler.

hmmm decision decision...I'd have to spend the cash on the bullets and the new piping and it be way louder and not sound as good as the 40. I do love the sound of the 40....but am ready for something better.

to add to it, it's not bad at highway speeds when you take it out of overdrive....but when overdrive is on (which it is in most cases it can get to you).

just a thought...will wrapping the bullets in header wrap tone down the interior noice?

Paint the exhaust tuping with hight temp paint and then wrap it....so no rust comes along in the winter time when the wrap gets wet.

Thoughts....

getting everything ready to do the exhaust this weekend.
I hope it sounds aggressive not raspy and crapy like some exhaust i've heard.
