Any 5.4L running 40 series Delta Flow?

50's too quiet for me, 40's too loud. I am wondering if the 40 Deltas are the ticket. If it really is a "drone-free" 40 series. (planning SI/SO 3") Thanx

Good luck with a "drone free 40". I doubt it's even physically possible.

You might be able to reduce it quite a bit if you have the shop mount the muffler as far back as possible. No dumping either

Yeah, thanks. I didn't realize I had asked about a 4.6L and Magnaflows.

Dr.Nick, he isn't totally wrong. Flowmasters tend to drone... as do most chambered mufflers. Please do not get smart with each other, that is immature. I made a suggestion and that is really all you can do.

Ok ok, but I am just trying to see if I can hear from someone who actually has them on their truck. I already know that you're anti-Flowmaster

If you go to flowmaster's website they have sound clips, but it's not all that good. I have a 50 series Delta and it gets a drone around 2k rpm, I would assume the 40 series Delta will give you the same.

Ya, I'm in the same boat as you...I wish it was a bit louder, but not as loud as a 40 series...

if drone is a real issue for you, i beleive the only company that makes a drone free muffler is corsa. my buddy has the banks monster system on his truck and it's not too bad. i used to run FRPP GTA's on my mustang (same thing as a borla stinger) and they had no drone what so ever, although i don't know what ford racing offers in the way of truck exhaust.

but anyways, i used to run a si/so 40 series delta flow on my 1999 f-150 with the 4.6. drone really wasn't too bad. exhaust was quiter than i may have liked but really woke up when i punched the gas.

I have a supper 44 on my 5.4 and have it mounted as far back as possible and there is no drone to speak off it all depends on the location of the muffler. These magnaflow boys dont know what they as missing in my opnion the flowmasters sound better and i picked up about .5mpg when i had mine installed. Good Luck

Does 1-2 hp really matter that much to you? Tests have proven thats the only difference.

I had dual super 40's no drone at all, upgraded to the XR-1 still no drone, mufflers were around the same location. I know a guy at work who had a 5.4 (traded in for a ram) as well and his dual 40"s droned like crazy, his were closer to the cab than mine were and mounting hardware was different as well, no rubber isolators as I have, so location/mounting may reduce/increase the effect.
