What is the best performing muffler?
I have read that they're better performing mufflers that magnaflow and im just curious to know what they are. Im not trying start an argument or anything, im just a guy who is possibly looking to put another exhaust on so im just getting some opinions. Right now im thinking of replacing my di/do 14" maggie with an x-pipe and two dynomax bullets... any thoughts or opinions? Thanks.

I depends on what sound you want. You can't really get anything higher flowing than a straight through muffler. Bullets and Magnapacks are as free flowing as you can get, but they will be loud.
its a great set up man! no idea about power gain and all that
but thats exactly what i have so if you have all your cats it will sound
somewhere like this

just to clarify, by best performing im talkin about a nice combo of low end and some mpg's. sound also plays a big part in this as well as money so thats why im falling in love with the bullets. but nothing is set in stone yet, i've just had my exhaust for nearly 2 years and im looking around for one that i like more. by the way, that f150 with the bullets and the x sounds sick! but i cut the rear cats off so now im really curious to know what it will sound like. if anyone has a clip of this or knows where i can find one let me know. thanks!

well here is what I found I puchased A cat back flowmaster 3" 50 series suv with mandrel bent tail pipe wide open performance was there, but the truck is a daily driver not a race truck. It gave me poor gas mileage 2 or 3 mpg less from stock it could not hold a steady pace with traffic without constant input to the throtle it acted like it was falling on it's face. So now I am down $300. Talked to the tech guys at magna flow they suggested there 18" 2.5 in and 2.5 out we oversized the inlet and outlet to fit the 3" exhaust tubing picked up 2mpg and it pulls hard all th way through the power band. Never misses passing gear kickdown. I think these smaller ford motor need some back presure to perform prperly. The 4.6 for sure no doubt about it, but the 5.4 I was told 3" all te way through. The 2.5 made a big difference for my truck I live in california if that matters.

pipe size plays a big factor. i had true dual 3"bullets on my 4.6 i had no low end but once the truck got up into the RPM range it ran pretty good. i got a 3" to 2 1/2" adpator right after the collector and got 2 1/2" dynomax ultra flows and my truck can burn um off the line were as with the 3" it was picky about were it would do a burn out...with the 2 1/2" pipes it will light um up anywere.
i liked my bullets stright threw cheap easy and they never rusted or gave me a prob the alumized steel held up threw 2 michigan winters of salt and snow and still look new.

My corsa is a straight thru design and def not that loud, I wish it was louder sometimes! I'd be willing to be they are up there with the best "performance" out of an exhaust system
Keep in mind you can put any exhaust on a stock truck and get the same gains.

I like my Borla XR-1, I just run a single 3" oval with a 12" case, they do have a 2 1/2'" in/out that has a 12" oval case, cost about 127 per. This thing is pretty loud, no drone at all and when ya go WOT it will get noticed...
