Time to start gathering info and opinions on my next mod..

..Cold Air Intake! Going to get one for my birthday in a couple months. Dont really know much about the subject to be honest, just checking in here every once in a while. So info on do's and dont's, what brands are best for my set up, and stuff like that would be great.

Truck is a 4.6 V8 4x2 08' F-150 STX. Dont know if it makes a difference knowing whats been done to the truck so far or not but heres the only 2 mods that I think would be of interest. Larger tires/wheels with 2.5 level. 18x9 Wheels with 285/65/18 terra grapplers. Then also have a Magnaflow catback exhaust w/duel rear exits. Replaced the stock air filter with a K&N, but obviously would take that out after I get the CAI. Thats it. I do plan on getting an Edge/Gryphon for Christmas too.

Soooo....Help me out? Lead me to the promised land people!!

If you want to buy a cold air intake, get a S&B kit. It's cheaper than the K&N and provides better performance.

If you want to modify your stock intake to save some money, look into the Gotts Intake Mod.

Stick to an enclosed kit and you will be fine. Avoid open filter intake kits such as K&N because they do not induct cold air.

I've heard several people recommend the S&B kit. Shopped around AutoAnything and do like the look of it alot more then the others.

What is the Gotts Intake Mod?

Thats a pretty cool mod. Thanks for the link. Great for the price but think I would actually rather get a "real" intake like the S&B. Like the look. So everyone agree the S&B is good? Is there any problems I could run into at the dealership? It wont void warranty's or anything like that?

Got another question. I've read various posts about CAI's making trucks run lean without a custom tune etc.. Should I be concerned about that with my setup? Because I'd be running with the CAI for a couple months before I'd get an Edge/Gryphon, and dont want to have any problems over that time.

Thanks
Rob

Not as bad as the 04 - 05 models, but you still should get a custom tune for a CAI because you wont see too much of a performance benefit from it un-tuned.

The problem only occurs with the 3 valve 5.4, not with 2 valve 4.6's.
