How would this affect the sound?

I've got the square camero tips straight out the back right now but I've been thinking about cutting the exhaust right behind the muffler and boltng or welding ok round tips. My questions is not so Much about the tips but if cutting the pipes shorter would effect the sound of my exhaust, I know if would probably make it louder in the cab but is that it?

Thanks,

I may be wrong, but other threads i've read advise not to cut the pipes short because of all the heat that is inevitably going to be trapped under the bed of the truck. They say that it is better to vent either out the side in front of the rear tire, or out the back.

You you want to dump your exhaust under the truck? Perfectly fine, but it sounds like you want a tip on it there under the truck where it won't be seen? Maybe a turndown to redirect the exhaust to the ground and no right at your rear axle.
