What if I just take it off.....
What if I just take off the end piece of the stock intake tube?? instead of buying the 3" PVC pipe, Ima do the gotts regardless, but I was just wondering if it would matter. I mostly do highway driving so it shouldnt suck hot air too much, right???
Thanks guys

I don't Know!
Well I don't know, but here is my opinion. I have an 07 5.4 SC. At first I did the Gott's, but the PVC makes noise pulling in and out of the fender hole. I know that I could do a little more reshaping to stop it, but I though why not just disconnect it at the end. Most of the aftermarket intakes have what they call a Heat Shield, but they still have an opening into the engine bay facing the front. Look at 96-03 Volant, SLP, Airaid Jr., AEM Brute Force, and many of the K&N's. The JLT intake is completely open to the engine bay. Now I do 100% agree that having a totally enclosed filter would be best, but it's just not seen much. So I have just left the 3" PVC off of mine for nearly one year with no noticable problems. Also, in my opinion, my Roush Catback sounds louder and better without it.

I also capped all the air scilencer things. I am no expert, just stating my opinion. I agree 100% that cool air is the best. Is it a necessity----I don't know, probably not. Is running the truck without the Gott's intake extending into the fender bad for the motor----probably not. Most important, does it make more power than with the factory snorkel----Butt-O-Meter sais yes and it's a noticable differenct as RPM's increase. Does it make more power than the Gott's intake----probably yes until the engine bay warms up, less distance and turbulance. Does it make my exhaust sound better----I think it does. Also like the guy who posted the original question, my truck is 95% hwy driven.
