First Truck Need help with Exhaust Decision

Whats up gents. Just bought my first truck... 2006 V8 5.4L SuperCrew Lariat. I just put a K&N Cold Air Intake on and a PowerAid Throttle Body Spacer. I now want to put on a cat back exhaust system and I'm overwhelmed with the amount of options and opinions out there. I want to spend around $500. Bassani, Borla, Flowmaster, Gibson, JBA, Magnaflow? I know I want to do a single pipe side exhaust. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks for the input...Tony

if u want to spend $500 go with Borla or Magnaflow. with that price range you could get a system (not a kit, just buy the muffler(s) and tips and have it welded it the way u wanted) and you could get high flow converters.

X2

The premade kits are way over priced.

You could have saved your money on the throttle body spacer and put it towards a custom tuned programmer.

with 500 bucks i would this:
2 Borla XR-1 Mufflers (2.5") - $250 shipped
X Pipe - $50-75 - shipped
2 SS 3.5" tips -$75- 100 shipped
and install would put you around $500.

or you could just do a single 3" Borla Xr-1 muffler and no X pipe and get the high flow converters with the saved money

you need a custom tune for that CAI otherwise you will run lean until the engine fails. As for mufflers the others pretty much covered it. Check out some Youtube vids.

I have the same truck and also have K&N intake and I went with the Roush off road kit. I've had it for two years and I love it. It cost around $570 Installed from the Ford Dealership. I originally wanted the "legal" kit but the Ford guy told me they don't even carry the "legal" kit because it is bout the same as stock noise level. I'm glad I went with the off road kit. Nice rumble when I'm on the throttle but not annoyingly loud when cruising at highway levels.

My kit is dual out the back but they have a dual out the same side, behind the tire.

X2. I would either remove the CAI until you get a tuner or wait on the exhaust and use that money for a tuner. You definately need one with a CAI on your year truck!

I think they fixed the lean issue with the 06's. I always hear about the 04-05's suffering from Ford's faulty program.

I was thinking it was the 08's? But maybe that's the plug issue? I get confused! lol
I still would go with a tune ASAP.

I heard the same thing bout the Lean issue being fixed, and that was from a buddy who used to work at a Ford dealership here. Ive never had any problems with mine, but i do plan on doing a tuner either way for the benefits.
