So... What should I go with?

I was reading through most of the posts in this sub-forum and I must say that the decision for a new exhaust didn't get any easier. I started driving this truck not too long ago and it's actually my lady's truck. We swapped rides for a little while and since my car is pretty much completed in terms of modifications, she asked me to do the truck up. One of the things she would like to get is a good sound coming from the truck and this made me initially consider cold air intakes. But doing extensive research on that subject I've found that the factory intake with the DWV mod is the best thing out there. So what else is there; exhaust.

Thing is, we're both students (and Canadian) so dropping $700 USD on a MagnaFlow exhaust system isn't really doable. What are my options? When flipping through the LMC Truck catalogue for other parts and accessories I came across this CAT BACK PERFORMANCE DUAL EXHAUST SYSTEM. The price and the fact that it comes with black resonator tips as mufflers (going for a black-out look) had me seriously considering this as an option. But there's gotta be more out there, there's gotta be something I'm missing.

The advice of all of you is greatly appreciated, I obviously don't even know where to begin.

Go to an exhaust shop and ask what kind of mufflers they have in stock, and get a price quote on a muffler & back install and tips.

Check out youtube.com for F150 exhaust videos to get an idea of what sound/muffler you want.

I just realized that I came off sounding like a total newbie there. I'm going for a deeper sound and I'm trying to stay away from that rice rocket "I'm only doing 25 but it sounds like I'm doing 70" kinda sound. I like the sound of the Heartthrob Deep-Tone system and they have a sound clip on their website but as there's not video I can't really tell where the mic is when it's capturing the sound.

The Flowmaster system is hella loud, or so it seems on Youtube. I commute about an hour on the highway so I'm not sure I can stand listening to that. I actually caught your video, DarrenWS6 and damn, I had to turn the volume down. All these systems seem almost too loud from the interior and I doubt babygirl is gonna want to have to put up with that. I'll get back to the drawing board with her and she what she's thinking.

From the looks and sounds of it, I'm gonna be visiting my custom exhaust guys and looking into new mufflers. If only LMC Truck actually posted the brand names in their catalogue...

u, along with most other guys here, dont wanna spend 600 bucks on a cat back system. the best thing to do with ur money is to get the muffler of your choice, either through the exhaust shop or online (ebay, summit racing, performance peddler) as well as the tips and have the shop weld everything together with watever size pipe u need. (3" for single) 2.5" for duals and so on. i think u and ur lady would be happy with a magnaflow, either 14" round (magnapack) or 14" oval body or 11", like darren, even though he has duals. those mufflers will sound very good and deep and aggressive, but not killing your ears in the cab, like my bullet does!

From the re-action to your reply I believe I know what sound you are after, a calm and mellow, peace keeping sound. The Magnaflow 18" body muffler will sound good under acceleration and start up while being well tamed at idle and cruising.

Your also probably the first person to say my exhaust is too loud . I haven't exactly heard that before, peoples impressions are averagly "just loud enough" "pretty good" "perfect ( not raspy, not too quiet not too loud )" and "sweet" lol

And I think the Magnaflow would be perfect for you all, Darren is right it does quiet down on the road thats why I had to switch my system because I thought it was to quiet after awhile.

Oh and keep in mind that Darren is running duels with no cats thats why you thought it so "loud"

I think it sounds nice. not too quiet for sure, but not TOO too loud either. cats being a major part of that imo. I got longtubes on my truck and that made it quite a bit louder and slightly changed the rev sound/tone...

to the OP, get a 3" powerstick and delete all your cats and it will be perfect maybe some longtubes as well LOL j/k, I think the borla SI/DO is pretty quiet, when we ride in the wife's soccer mom minivan (07 expy) I somewhat wanna make it louder, but she likes it where it's at. our new daughter just made 8 weeks and she isn't bothered by it even WOT. my truck on the otherhand startup will make small animals and children run for cover lol

I am partial to the Borla XR-1, I have had it about two months I think, and no complaints or regrets so far, it does get loud at WOT for sure. I would do some drive by videos but the ones I had before were kind of sucktacious and we mostly heard the blower whine. I have a few in park in my signature if ya want to see what they sound like, but be warned that they sound way better in person.
