Cutting exhaust pipe back for tip?

I have a stock exhaust setup with a 14" Magnaflow muffler and want to install a 8" Gibson single wall stainless tip. The section exiting to the rear after the bend is 10". Should I cut this back before installing the tip? Appreciate any input except saying "just put duals on"!

Hows it sound with the stock muffler replaced with the 14" maggie? I'm still undecided if I want to go single 3" or just stick with stock.....Uggg....

I'm really happy with it. Definitely has more tone, slight drone on acceleration to highway speed (which actually sounds tough but not overwhelming) then smooths out and has a real good sound. Some folks may question this but I swear I got better throttle response after I had it installed. Really seemed to open the exhaust.

Hold it up to where you think it would end perfect, and mark the pipe at the spot where the tip inlet starts, and cut it about an inch after your mark so you can slip-fit and clamp it.

3" from the Y pipe will perform healthier, and have a deeper grunt.

Thanks for the input OP...I'm not sure that any exhaust mod is going to have zero drone...It seems every truck I've ridden in with an exhaust has one somewhere in the normal driving range (0-80) of course some are worst then others. Like my bros GM with the DroneMaster on it!!!

I agree Darren....Its what I'm going to do. Just always shoping around, especially since going 2.5" would be less then half the cost of the 3"...You have me convinced to go 3" though.
