Ugrading my 2006
Ugrading my 2006
How's it going folks,
-Bought a f150 (2006 supercab, 5.4) and I'm going to be making some upgrades.
-I've done a far bit of research. Planning on buying most of the goods from "autoanything.com" and "andysautosport.com" If you know of other good ones, please let me know.
-I'd like to get some feedback on what I'm planning to add, whether it be about the product or something I should add or take off the list.
-I'm doing this on a budget (to a degree). Regarding the cold air intake, I'll save anywhere from $150-200 by getting a airaid intake tube combined with an os K&N filter.
- Duel MBRP exhaust looks to me like a good option for price verses quality. Sound clip won my approval as well. Second choice it "heartthrobe."
-Underdrive pulley's. No brainer.
The only other thing im uncertain about adding or not is a chip and or programmer. My first question is, can you not have the mechanics hook up their own programmers and tune it once all the goodies are bolted down?
Appearance wise (truck is silver) I'm thinking about a black bullbar combined with some aggressive headlights with black backing and a black grill of some kind. Wish i could find all of that in a matt black. Not to fond of the glossy.
O.k now suspension wise I'm going to likely grab a leveling kit but I'm trying to understand how it raises the back?...Does a 3" level kit raise the whole vehicle and If so, why would anyone pay $100's/1000's for a lift kit e.i. springs etc?
I'll give a final cost for my aftermarket upgrade once installed. With pix and a sound clip. I expect to have it all done in 1 to 2 weeks.
Any thoughts? Appreciated!
Cheers!
M

You can save money by just doing the Gotts Mod instead of buying the Airaid tube, and it will perform the same if not better.
Underdrive pulleys really don't perform well considering the cost of them. They only gain about 5 horsepower and decrease the output of the alternator and power steering.

Wasn't sure what you ment by the Gotts Mod. Somewhat new to truck and upgrading them. I googled this link though. What you were referring to?

I thought for the most part, pulleys in lame terms make your engines life easier?
Thanks,

i would go with the roush off road kit. i believe its around the same price as the MBRP, but sounds amazing as all hell. i dont have a programmer, but from what i hear they make all the world difference. good job setting out a list of what u want done. also, if your ok with money, i would put the Volant intake on. its a true cold air intake meaning its a fully enclosed box. otherwise, any intake is better than stock, just like exhaust.

Also...... be careful when installing a CAI without a programmer/custom tunes on the 04+ 5.4L engines. They tend to run lean with a CAI installed.

Like the others have said...
If you are going for saving money the Gotts intake mod has been tested to show the same performance gain as a CAI. CAI's however look cooler and are louder. Also you will need a programmer and a custom tune to safely run the CAI as these trucks have a terrible tendency to run lean straight off the assembly line.
As for the exhaust I am set on my Roush kit, and my best friend is set on the MBRP. Cost wise you should stick with the MBRP. He just ordered his for 239 shipped from 4wheelparts. He called them up and told them he was told that price by a guy they just fired so they honored it. The Roush Kit can be found the cheapest on ebay for about 530 shipped. Others suggested woodhouse but they were asking more for the kit and charged twice as much for the shipping.
A 3" leveling kit will only lift the front of the vehicle to sit level. Thats what my friend did on his truck and it looks good. I have the ProComp 6" lift on my truck.
For a grill, if you can find the Saleen grill I think it is a matte black. You can always get a regular grill and paint it yourself but you will be touching it up quite a bit due to chips.

I've been buying from autoanything.com and they seem really cheap priced and free shipping on just about everything. i last got my gibson exhaust from they and it got to me really fast
Killer feedback. Thanks very much all.. The Roush sounds like a beast!!! My only concern is waking the neighbours when I fire her up at 6am on weekdays.
Lordfeyr, the guy who put that Gotts Mob clip together mentioned that you can disconnect the neg on the battery which resets the comp to the CAI additional air. Is this a fable?. Are programmers easy to use? I just don't want to fry the comp or something!
I like this programmer ---->

That is just a gauge display. You can get a programmer from Edge that looks identical -- it's called an Evolution. If running a CAI you need custom tunes. You can get a programmer with custom tunes through Troyer Performance, Power Hungry Performance, or VMP tuning. That's the three big ones talked about on the forums.
Got it, thanks FX4... This is also something my mechanic can also do after installation yes? Its more for looks and monitoring in my case. Least costly option that looks best. I want something that looks stock.
Anyone hear anything bad about the heartthrobe exhausts? Other than their name? It's by far the least expensive DUAL/BACK. Prob is it comes in black. $288..
I heard one clip and it didn't sound bad. I just dont want crappy material.

Another thing I'm considering now is that F150 "foose" design I caught in one of the clips.
