So... I appreciate your help and input... my question is. Besides a little more tone, and especially with less restriction, I should notice some improvement MPG wise and maybe a little HP gain???
$165 for the muffler? or the muffler bought and installed? Chrome tips will rust out in only a few months, do it right the first time and buy a quality set of stainless steel tips.

Hey Darren... thanks for jumping in. $165 is for the muffler and installation... total drive out. I agree on the Chrome vs. Stainless... and quite honestly I didn't ask. So the $25 and up for the tips at this shop are probably going to be all stainless.

Ok that sounds better. For a second I thought you mean $165 just to get the muffler. That mufflers worth $95. So the install price does sound very fair. Good luck.

Ok Guys... you haven't answered my question yet... I know removing the factory muffler and installing a direct flow system like Magnaflow will take a lot of back end pressure off the engine. Having said that... theoretically... beside picking up a little extra HP I should also see some... key word being some... improvement in my MPG. I would thing having the K&N Cold Air Intake and new exhaust should make a noticeable difference.

Any comments....

Thanks,
Ronnie

You will see a minor mpg increase if you monitor your mpg each tank. Usually 0.5 - 1mpg tops depending on driving habits. Make sure if you have a 5.4L you dont run a aftermarket intake without having a custom tune for your computer for it because the MAFs of these 3v engines do not take change to the air:fuel ratio very well, basically it will run lean, not programmed to receive the correct amount of fuel, and in the worse case scenario it will die on you, costing you the price of a new engine.

Thanks Darren... no I have the 4.6L. I have actually had the K&N intake system on my truck for two weeks... I also have the Hypertech Max Energy Tuner... and have it programmed... not real thrilled with the Hypertech.

BTW... Your truck looks great. Is that color Copper Metallic? I used to have a 4x4 Suburban that same color. It was a pretty unique color. Anyway... nice setup. Thanks for the input.

Well got my Magnaflow Exhaust put on this morning... love the sound!!! It is just about perfect... almost too quiet.

They didn't have the 18" so I had them put the 22" on. The technician who did the work spoke very highly of these. These are what he has on his family Surburban... he said I wouldn't notice much MPG gain around town but he has picked up a couple of MPG on the hiway.

So now... I have done about all I am going to do. Thanks for everyone's input and help. It is sincerely and greatly appreciated.

Now... if I could get rid of my Hypertech Max Energy and get a real tuner I think I would be set.

Cheers,
Ronnie

Glad you got it worked out! I imagine that 22" is quiet but it will get slightly louder in a few weeks once it is broken in. If you watch the classifieds enough in here you can probably pick up a used Edge programmer. I just struck a deal for one on here after several months of looking. Can't wait to get it. It will eventually be turned into a Gryphon!

Congrats on the install. There is a guy on youtube with a nice silver xl ext cab that has the 22" magnaflow. He has a video with 2500 miles so that will give you an idea of loudness.

OK... this is a little weird. I just got back from lunch. When I fired it up before I left it was considerably louder than when I left the muffler shop. Still a nice tone. The good thing is once it is in overdrive going down the road it pretty much sounds like stock with a "mild tone".

I will also have to admit... I had to jump on it leaving the office. With the K&N intake and the Magnaflow exhaust... all I can say is SWEEEEEET!!!!

Very good, it will get slightly louder as the rock wool that is packed inside it gets pushed up against the muffler walls.

Precisely, you can expect it to increase in volume minorly for the first thousand miles, and very very slightly over the next 5,000 miles.

Great info to know... I will be putting around 800 miles on it next week so it should have a good break in period. Also... I will see what kind of improvement, if any, MPG I will get considering 650 miles of that will be hiway.

Thanks...

Hey Ronnie I'm planning on doing the exact thing you did, having a Magnaflow muffler, same 22 inch length, installed on my truck and I placed an order on a cold-air intake kit. Did you notice a mpg increase and hp boost at all? I'm also trying to get less downshifting from overdrive when going up hills, any luck with that?
