I don't think there are any pros for true duals on a V6. It will sound ricerish and raspy and will probably hurt your MPG's and performance. If you plan on doing anything exhaust related to your truck, keep it a SISO setup with a VERY quiet muffler.

Its useless for sound, but you will free up some restriction causing a increase in gas mileage, but true duals on a V6 isn't going to be healthy for the V6. A simple muffler delete and Y piped tailpipes would work better but it will still sound like a V6.

Straight pipes sound like crap on the 4.2, as my cousin has them. Go for a simple muffler swap, either a Flowmaster 40 series or a Magnaflow 18" muffler. Either single exit or dual will sound good. I have a link to my exhaust set up in my signature. Just click it.

Well consider this. The more piping you have, the deeper the exhaust note will be. Deep is the best for our trucks. if you pair your exhaust with a cold air intake, it will have a very nice sound to it for a V6.

BTW, Sick truck! I absolutely love the color!!!

i have a 98 4.2 and i put a dynomax bullet 3" flow through on mine and it sounds perfect. i ran it out in front of the rear tire just because i thought it looked cleaner and with less pipe at most shops itll be cheaper. installed i spend around 120 with a stainless tip. pics in my gallery

If you have a power adder of any kind, if can be good. But for a regular, hardly any modded 4.2, true duals isn't the best route. Your better off with a Single entrance/dual exit muffler.

Haha, thanks. I try to help out when I can. I know everyone tries to beef up the sound of their V6, but it can only be done before it becomes more bad than good. The best mufflers I have heard on our trucks have been Flowmaster 40 Series, IMCO Extremes, Magnaflow 18" body. I have yet to here a bullet on our trucks.

Well the only engine mod a have is a cold air intake? So would true duals sound good?

It will at idle, and up to about 2000 RPM. Anywhere above that will start to sound more ricey as you go higher in RPMs. If you want a true dual setup, go for it. Don't let me change your mind. I'd actually like to hear a TRUE dual setup on our trucks.

Good luck with it!

Here are a few of my exhaust vids for reference. http://www.youtube.com/user/dirtydizzle2007

I ran duals w/flowmaster out the pass side. (like a Lightning, sig pic truck on left) It gave it a nice low rumble, but the sound is definitely V6.
