replacing muffler

ok so i am short on money but want to make my truck louder and right now i have a si/do flowmaster i think its a 40 series but im not sure because it came on the truck i dont have alot of money because im doing a lift but i was wondering if it would be possible to just replace my muffler with a dynomax bullet or similar product that would be loud and then change the tips. Everything is welded so what would it require to do this? I was thinkin just jack it up in the driveway and cut and clamp on the new stuff

There should be serial # model # of some sort on the flowmaster muffler and you can use that to check what you have.

If your removing a SI/DO muffler for a Dynomax Bullet ( SI/SO ) you will need some kind of Y pipe after the Dynomax outlet to connect them. Your Flowmaster most likely is a 3" inlet so I would get a Y pipe ( or have a shop fab one ) with 2.5" dual ends and a 3" single end to go after the muffler because i'm almost positive you will have 2.5" tailpipes.

Boosting the rear end up ( reverse up ramps would be safer ) will give you better access to the pipes, and clamps will work, but make sure you can tighten the hell out of them to prevent any leaks.

Correct, it should be on the inlet side near the edge, it should be a 7 digit number beginning with a 943xxxx.

I thought the model # was on the outlet side of the Flowmasters? That is where I found it on my GF's truck. Either way though, if you don't see it on one side look on the other.

Ok so would I be able to clamp everything or would I be better off just having a shop do it?
