Cat Ideas
OK, so I put in a super 44 muffler and dumped it. I love the tone, BUT I want it louder. I just like to hear it when i'm idling and when I punch it more. But what i'm really wanting to know is what is the best solution. Gutting, deleting, Hi-flows? Just like if it will void my warranty and stuff like that. Also would removing all four and just putting in two hi flows be alright? Thanks in advance, Farmboybrent
Well firstly dumping it makes it quieter outside, insides louder but without tailpipes guiding the sound away from under the truck and with tips so it can echo the sound off of structures and such, it would be louder.
Gutting cats kills power because a hollow cat is velocity loss, deleting cats ( all of them ) would be the loudest and illegal way to go, not really worth the fine. If you can get inspected you could remove the rear converters like I did since you have a 2004. Cheap project and fun, but still illegal.
Hi-flow cats would be the best, it'll still be legal, and with just two hi-flow cats with the O2s mounted behind them the engine light will stay off.

Thanks for the reply! Well I kinda noticed that it is alot deeper and louder when I stick my head under the rear wheel well. When you say two high flows do you mean remove all four and then put just two high flows? Also would my warranty still be intact? On another note, I have always noticed when at WOT if I listen closely to my exhaust, it sounds as if the air coming out is like a jet plane like whooshhhhhhh just like a weird noise. Idk if thats normal or how to get rid of it. Thanks, Farmboybrent
Yes, remove all 4 OEM cats and replace with two hi-flow converters. Better flowing design which means better performance and massive sound gain.
Warranty for your exhaust will be voided ( who cares really, everyone adds cat-backs, and hi-flow cats are only $84 each ), your entire warranty will still be fine.
It could be just a normal dumped chambered muffler sound that your describing, and the location of your dumps might be blowing on the axle causing the sound, but I would let it run at an idle, climb under and feel around for any air seeping through from the welds. Best to do so on a cold start to avoid any burns.

Thanks! I went underneath and sure enough, the area around the dump had only been tacked on so there was a decent amout of air coming out around it. So I took it off and welded it up.
What brand of high flow cat would you recommend? As to price, quality, sound, and power gain?. Thanks
Magnaflow. $67 each for part #94106s, t-409 stainless steel, near catless sound, and a minor power gain due to less restriction.

Well from performance peddler yeah when they give you the make offer stuff, but the general price is $67 - $72 for one.
Before you get too carried away with making it louder, you have to consider that over time it will get louder and louder. When i first put my super 40 on it wasn't even noticable, now its noticeable but still wanting to go somewhat louder.
Great deal! You did very well. $40 for two cats is unheard of!
$100 - $200 is average. Getting cat work done is difficult to do in most areas because not alot of shops are willing to do it in fear of cat converter modification fine, or warranty issues. If your truck has over 70,000 miles you should be fine getting work done though.
