Flowmaster

Of these two Flowmaster products, Standard 40 or Super 44, which has a deeper, "rumbling" sound with less interior resonance?

Does SI / SO or SI / DO make any difference to the sound?

Does the position of the input/ output on the muffler make any difference to the sound? (ie. centered or offset)

Thanks.

Super 44 is a better muffler, better designed ( 4x9.75" case, only two baffle plates in the center chamber, and better angled chamber walls ). The standard/original 40 is the same except plain straight chamber walls, and 1 huge baffle plate with really wide wings. The Super 44 will flow better.

SI/DO sounds a little louder due to the dual tailpipes. Inlet/Outlet locations do not affect sound on any muffler, just strictly for easier fitment.

Go with the super 44, I got the 40 series and wish I had gone louder, with mine It sounds really nice at certain speeds but wish it was deeper all around.

to answer your question, get a si/do muffler...
also, the super 40 is a "quieter" muffler than the 44, but it still has quite a bit of drone in the cab..(my pipes are currently dumped, its not as bad when its duals out the back)

i think it sounds great, but i still wish i has a 44.....

I just had a si/so flowmaster 40 put on, they replaced the pipe with 3" up to the y-pipe. I love the sound, but it is really loud in the cab. I was surprised. Maybe it is due to the fact that I have a shell on mine (echo?), but if I could get the same exterior sound with less interior sound, I would definitely do it. Don't know if the super 44 solves that problem, but I would definitely look at it if I had it to do over again.

Sorry to hear, but thats what to expect with Flowmaster. The Super 44 would be louder inside and out.

sounds good. I can't really tell the difference between the sound of a original 40 and super 44, via youtube anyway.

Hello I had the super 44 on my 5.4 2005 SI/DO before I went to Magnaflow true dual. It was loud, I also did not have the rear cats on there thanks to DarrenWS6 help and that made a huge sound difference. Nothing bad about Magnaflow but the FlowMaster super44 is a beast with sound. It was aleast mine was louder then dodge

Flowmaster super 44 !! I have the Magnaflow round bodys right now and dont get me wrong they get loud but Im going back to Flowmaster . Truthfuly I felt no difference in performance . Now im talking for myself but flow master I switch my exhaust 4 times on the truck already . But the 44 was the best sound hands down . Some guys have the SLPs and thats the same I feel like running stright pipe . Go with the flow if you want that sound and highflow cats
