Starting Long Tubes

Hey Guys,

I am pretty new to the exhaust world, but I am getting set up to start ordering parts to make my system. I have a 04 5.4 SCREW, and I am pretty set on Pacesetter Long Tubes from what I have been reading around here. So to complete the system I will still need/want 2 High Flow Cats, and also a Muffler (Flowmaster)? Please correct me if I am wrong, but I have been reading that Cats are optional in the system depending on the state's law. What are the Pro's and Con's or running cats or not running cats?

i just done headers

i JUST put header and cam in my 2004 5.4 3v.

I spent the extra for Dynatech and i'm glad i did!!
This was the first system i put in that everything lined up great!! i've done others and it was pain in the butt.

Why did i spend the extra:
made in U.S.
stainless
cats are there and the bungs are already welded (HUGE plus for the bungs)
comes with the y (unless you plan on running true dual, if you don't exhaust shop isn't cheap)
Mostly, LESS hassle...... of getting everything together, calculating O2 distance, welding in bungs.

Good plans. Magnaflow 94306 or 94106 cats will work fine for your application. Theres actually a couple of them for sale a few bucks cheaper in the classifieds here.

Could I get the part # for this setup, and also a price? and do you have any pics? I want to go with LTs and i'm not too familiar with the Dynatech kit for our trucks. Is your truck 4wd also?

Pacesetters are good I have had them on for almost 3 years, And yes you want to run cats unless you want no lowend TQ and dont run a slowmaster muffler either that's just for noise. Get you a magnaflow muffler and high flow cats it will sound great.

1 week with pacesetters and i love them! assuming your paying to install them, its only a little cheaper than the dynatechs. (thats also installing the dynas yourself.) i wanted nothing to do with installation.

cats you should invest in, i am in the process (with none) but am looking into the 94106 (thanks darren) for the "catless" sound but still legal. not many states i know of allow no cats...

flows, no. i've done them, maggies, and cherry bomb but i'll probably go back to maagies soon cause that cherry is ridiculously loud!

I could be wrong or yall might already do this, but when installing headers wouldnt it make it alot easier by removing the front tires so you can just get right to em? i was rotatin my tires yesterday and when i could see my entire headers plain as day it hit me this has to make it alot easier if youre not already doin it

I now that here in Missouri they don't do emissions testing, all they do is check to make sure they are on the truck, even if it is just the shell it will pass inspection. ; )

Dynatech headers have 1 3/4" diameter tubes with a 2.5" collector pipe while pacsetter is the same diameter tubes with 3" collector. So either way you cant lose!

Thanks for all the info guys. I have been looking at some videos and sound clips and I do like the sound of magnaflow muffler and high flow cats! And from what it sounds like that would be a pretty efficient power increase by letting the beast breathe. But its a little hard to tell exactly how loud they are from a video and I do live at the very end of a neighborhood. Is it loud enough to upset the neighbors coming home some late nights and leaving early in the morning?

Huh thats odd.... Summit shows them as having "Primary Tube Diameter (in): 1 3/4 in. "

Unless they have it wrong?

[Edit] Even dynatechs website shows the same
