I did the Gotts intake on my truck awhile ago back when it was big news on this board. I didn't really notice a whole lot, but after resetting my computer it took a week for my truck to feel "right" again anyway, by which time it was sort of tough to remember what my truck felt like to begin with.
Anyway, I was thinking about taking it a step farther, I like the huge stock paper style filter and how it only pulls good clean cold air out of the fender. But it has that funky rounded/rectangular tube thing going from the air filter box to the throttlebody. Would any gains be made by replacing this with a peice of bent pipe similar to an aftermarket CAI?
I did notice the outlet of the airbox is a different size than the throttlebody so it would take an adapater to do it, which I also noticed a number of aftermarket kits use anyway. I haven't measured the sizes yet though to see just how different they are though.

If nothing else a little more noise would be ok, the full blown aftermarket kits brag about 15hp when even that is barely noticable on its own. If a little power came along with the noise that would be great to but really isn't needed.
what engine do you have??? did you reset the computer after the mod???
you do unserstand that you have a gasoline engine not a diesel? diesel engine respond better the intake exhaust mod than N/A gasoline engines do
you can remove the silencer if you'd like and it would do the same as having an adapter made and pipe to the TB, my truck ran better with the gotts mod than it did withthe K&N CAI 7hp is hard to pick up with the ol' but dyno

I could spew off about how an intake isn't gonna be at its full potential without exhaust, the exhaust isn't gonna be at its full potential without headers, the headers aren't gonna be at their full potential without head work, the head work isn't gonna be at its full potential without cams, the cams need boost to take care of their potential. You know what I mean?
To answer the OP's question. Yes there could be gains. Even with the silencer removed there is still a restriction with the rubber flex hose on the factory intake. The ribs in that factory flex tubing create turbulence and thus slowing down airflow.

I have the 5.4 with 2.25" true duals with Thrush glasspacks. Aside from the duals and the existing intake mod it is completely stock.
I did reset my computer, losing the adaptive strategy is what threw me off on if anything really changed. It took a week of whoopin' to get it to shift like it used to.
