Exhaust and torque question?

Ok! So the stock exhaust is begining to annoy me. It has developed a little ticking sound and appears to have a small hole in front of muffler. Anyway it's a good excuse to upgrade before long. I am probably going to go with a cat back set up that I can do myself. I am not looking to be loud, would prefer to be just a little deeper tone than stock. But regardless of brand or sound I do not want to lose any torque. My truck is basically stock as far as motor goes (5.4). I tow travel and utility trailers fairly often. Does it make a difference in torque between dual and single set ups? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Duals typically will provide less torque than single set ups. Some on here say they have more torque in a dul setup with 2.25" true duals, nd the geeral consensus is that 2.5" duals are too much for more low end torque. Personally, I wouldnt waste the money on a catback. I have one, and the last 1 foot section of each pipe didn't line up right and I had to take $60 to have the end of tails redone. IMO, a 3" Single Setup with an 18" Magnwflow sounds like what you want. 3" Single will have the most definate torque of anything.

Not so seem dumb but is the ticking sound the cooling off or while running? The hole is to drain water, unless you are speaking of a nasty rust hole (my FL truck has considerable rust on that huge muffler, so maybe).

3" JBA catback installed

Personally I feel like I lost some low end when I went from factory to the JBA SISO setup. It looks and sounds beautiful. On the highway I could tell a seat of the pants difference like wise on the loss on the low end.

Well there is no true dual cat-back for these trucks. The only set-ups really available is SI/SO and SI/DO kits. The dual tailpipes wont affect performance at all noticeably. You will have much better torque and performance with a Magnaflow system over the restrictive stock muffler.

The Magnaflow cat-backs wont be loud or obnoxious, very deep, all stainless.

I guess it could be a hole to drain water? It is small and has black soot all around it? It is on the front side not the bottom. The ticking is most noticable at the drive thru. Doesn't sound like a pebble or anything it is more in time with the engine. It has only been doing it for about the last couple of months or so? I finally looked under the truck and noticed the hole so I figured that was the problem?
