2 Exhaust Questions

I currently have an '05 Screw 4x4 5.4 with the 2 factory cats(only ever had 2), the y-pipe comes of the motor into a single pipe then out into a y again where the muffler was and goes out to two 3.5" tips exiting the corners.

My main question is how can I make it louder or meaner?

Will hi-flow cats make a big difference?

Will turning the system into true duals make a big difference?

It just seems sooooo quite compared to my Chevrolets I've had and we are going to PCB for Spring Break this week

do u have a muffler on it now or is it straight piped? if u already only have 2 cats on it i dont think itl make a huge difference putting high flows. putting true duals will make it quite a bit louder.

What size pipe did you run?
If you make it true duals with an x-pipe 2.5" throughout it will sound like the clips in my sig, it is as just as loud as chevys and dodges with straights. High flow cats will also make a pretty big difference, but I would suggest changing to true duals first and then if thats not enough put some high flows on.

It really is weird. There is no pop to it all at any time (not that I want that, but I expected it). It kind of just moans...no rhythm at all. Sounds like it has about 8 flowmaster mufflers on it haha. You can barely hear it at WOT with the windows up.

Make sure you get an x or h pipe if you dont it will sound like crap and won't make any power. Also I will ask again what size pipe is it going to be done in?

Ok you should be fine, it will sound great as long as they put an x or h pipe in it.

Yep, even if they don't have the x I will still get them to run true duals in the morning and I will see how I like it. I know I won't like the power loss even if I like the sound though.

The only truck I've had with true duals was a '99 Silverado 5.3, no mufflers, 4" tips. It sounded great without an x-pipe and I didn't lose any power that I could tell. What makes these 5.4's so different from what you would think would be a comparable 5.3?

Its not that you are going to lose any power that you would notice, but you won't gain any. So say you lose 5hp and with the x-pipe you would gain 5hp thats a 10 hp difference, still not a lot but I would rather spend the extra 20 bucks and gain some power. Also I just don't like the way they sound without an equalizing pipe, I dont like my truck to pop that much.

Fords are quiet due to the modular design and the factory cat design. Chevys are push rods with a hi-flow design in their OEM cats which makes them louder.

true dual straights with X should make you happy, maybe more with hi-flow converters.
