Dumped exhaust question

I have a question on my exhaust. I have a Flowmaster 40 series sido dumped before the axle. Is that hurting my perf. and gas mileage. Would putting a different muffler on there help in those areas? Or even putting tailpipes on the 40 series?

Dumping is only about sound preference, not hurting a think except your head with the drone that must be giving inside

If you get a straight through design muffler your performance would be better in the high end since theres nothing in the flow path.

Ok, great 2 know this too, since I wanted 2 install a 40 series getting a 44 series now. Single exhaust only. I thnk it is worth it to go the extra step and upgrade.
Haven't placed an order yet, but soon to place 1

Great choice. The Super 44 is a hell of alot better flowing, and sounding, than the regular 40 series.

That's not even an UPgrade, just a louder, just as restrictive muffler. Dumped exhaust makes no difference in performance, like Darren said, just sound and appearance. I prefer the cleaner look of no tailpipes, I like turndowns. If you want to upgrade, go to a straight through muffler. There are several companies with much better flowing mufflers than flowmaster. Magnaflow, Borla, Dynomax, etc...I use the dynomax race bullet and love it. Some people prefer the magnaflow tone, I don't care for it. Borla sounds awesome, but well, you Pay for it!

Yes the Super 44 does flow better than the Delta 40. If you would study the chamber plates you will notice that the Super 44 has 1 less plate, and the more open entry hole on the first chamber wall plate is much wider than the delta's. The rear chamber wall is about 1/4" closer to the rear wall of the muffler helping the exhaust flow out a little better.

I agree chambered mufflers suck, and I am well aware of how straight through mufflers operate, I am not new to the exhaust area. But the Super 44 does have advantages over the delta 40. The major fact being its 4.75x9.50 case vs the 40s 5x9.75" case which keeps things a bit quieter than the sound of the Super 44.

So.. would it be worth it to switch out my original 40 for a 44? Less drone?

I think the Super 44 may actually be a tad louder than the Original 40. Personally, I wouldn't trade it out for done, I'd trade it for a better design.

If the original 40 is rusted out get a Super 44. Once that rusts out, go with something else

Well now that I haven't even placed a bid on any muffler.. What size do you think I will need for my 2000 F 150 ... Jeez Flowmaster, Magnaflow, Flowmaster or Magnaflow! Driving me crazy!

I think I'll do it right the first time!...
As you know I want some sound...
then again I want some mileage and power...
Making me choose
.....
....
...
..
.

MAGNAFLOW! So what will I be looking for besides 2.5".. what case etc? I'm not sure what design fits my truck... and what doesn't...

Fugghettetabout it! I think I'm going to cancel the Flowmaster 44... forget the sound and Chokemaster I think I want a straight through now!
