Question Need input--Magnaflow for 4.6?

Hi guys. First of all, I've searched, and read, through alot of threads/posts in these forums about Flowmaster and Magnaflow, and after extensive thought about which to install, have decided on going with a Magnaflow for my 4.6.

My problem is which one to get.....

I'm thinking of using the stock piping from cats to muffler, SI/SO, with the exhaust coming out in either before or behind the passenger. I've read that if it's in front of the tire, it may be a little too loud inside the cab.(?) I think that would look sweet though, in front of tire....especially with a tip like this one
or

I would appreciate any advice/input in this matter.....thanks in advance.

Exclamation Doh!

Stupid me.....I forgot to mention that I do realize if I go with the exhaust in front of rear tire, stock pipe would need to be removed due to limited space between cats and muffler.

I would recommend going behind the tire, but if you like the look of in front go for it. You will collect a lot of dirty and nastiness on your wheel back there. Magnaflow was a good choice I personally perfer the 2nd, but how large of a tip is the first? Looks very small in the picture, if I was going to do it before the tire I would do something similar with the Gibson that's just me, or something along the lines of Cheesepuff, just my 2 cents.

Btw, this belongs in the Aftermarket Exhaust thread, but that's okay.

Good plan. And that is precisely why it is louder inside. When the muffler is fully under the bed its more peaceful inside. That 2nd tip would look pretty sweet exiting before tire though.

Also awesome tires.

True, very true. Food for thought....thanks. My ideal setup would be similar to what is on the Harley F150 with duals out the side behind the rear wheel...

As for the tip, the first is 4" x 7" with 2.25" inlet. The second tip is 2.75" x5.25" x 7.25" with a 2.25" inlet.
Once I put those two side by side though, the second tip wins hands down, IMO.

Thought about that after I posted....hopefully, a mod will move it....sorry bout that.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking(about the tip) if I set it up before tire. But don't want to sacrifice comfort for looks.

And thanks for the compliment....I love my AT-KO's!!

Any ideas on which Magnaflow to go with?

True. I noticed you said 2.25" inlet on the tips, are you downsizing to 2.25? Why not keep it 2.5" or upgrade the entire exhaust to 3"? It would flow and perform a hell of alot better. You want to keep it all 1 size, dont ever downsize parts if an area before if larger.

What size are your KOs? I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger and ordering my wheels & tires ,18x9 pro comps with 285/65/18 BFGs.

If your staying with a single tailpipe and want a good loud sound, the 14" round will do good, or 14" oval for a deeper note, and the 11" body will sound really good. If you need part #s let me know.

I really don't think you'll have any "too loud" issues with a SI/SO wether you put it in front of, behind, or dump the exhaust even. I had a SI/SO 14" maggie on my truck before I went true duals, it sounded great, got louder with a few thousand miles of break in, but never really satisfied my crave for a growl. I'm 100% happy with my setup now. Vids in the sig if interested

I agree with ^ I don't think any Si/SO muffler would risk a comfort, go with a 14" Maggie.

the 14" are nice, but like everybody said, you're not gonna have to worry about it being too loud. thats the one regret i have about mine is its too quite and i dont wanna go back and invest any more money and time when i need the money for gas! lol

but i've got a few vids in my sig and the part # should be there too.

Thumbs up

I've decided on the setup that I'm going with, but I am going to have to find a local shop that can provide the 3" stainless pipe that will be needed. Largely due to Darren's advice(thanks Darren ), I've decided on replacing the 2.5" stock pipe with 3" stainless and going with the Magnaflow #11219(SI/SO, 4x9 body, 3" inlet/outlet) with the exhaust coming out behind the rear tire with this tip here(#35206)

It's going to be a little while before I can special order the Maggie and tip, as well as finding a local shop that gives me a good price on the install. However, once done, I'll post pics and sound clips.

Thanks for all the replies....

I LOVE the look of that tip! I think I want to do two of those side by side! What about if it was a 14" SI/DO instead of a 14" SI/SO? Would that make it too loud?
