I just ask my tuner that very same question last week just before I installed my Banks Monster Exhaust. His answer was "No".

Do you have to? (No) Can you still? (Yes)
It's not going to heart anything if you don't.
But,,it's not a bad idea after any mods that you add like engine, exhaust mods.
It will give the computer a chance to relearn if the mod made any differences and could actually help.

An exhaust change that does not involve removing the cats does not change anything the computer does. It is not necessary to reset.

x2. I did it after I got my exhaust but it didn't improve anything. Only real necessary if your welding.

I think he meant during the actual welding process.

Correct. For anything past the Y pipe it will be alright but when welding anywhere near the front its best to disconnect the negative battery terminal due to there are quite alot of ground wires attached to the frame and body. Saves your compounents and battery.

Oh I see. Duhhh, what do I know? They didn't bother to disconnect the battery and the truck seems fine. I guess I maybe got away with one.
