o2 sensors
o2 sensors
anyone had any luck with other brands? i know motorcraft is the general consensus and stay away from bosch.
im lookin at these from standard motor products and some from airtex. should i even take the time and money to buy them?
also, im replacing the front o2s (closest to engine). are these upstream or downstream? im arguing with myself because i can see it either way.

I think perhaps you may have got the wrong info. The OEM O2 sensors are Bosch. The only Bosch product you should avoid in your truck is their spark plugs. I replaced all four of my O2s about 6 months ago with Bosch ones and I looked at the old ones and they were Bosch as well. No issues, no codes.
The fronts are up stream, i.e. before the cats.
If you can afford it I'd replace all 4 at the same time.
To summerize:
Bosch O2s good...Bosch spark plugs BAD!!.

there is no point in replacing the downstream sensors. all they do is monitor emissions.
thanks for the help.
For putting in a set of Pacesetter LT's in a '97 4.6, am I going to need any extensions for the FRONT O2 sensors? I'm thinking not, but I'm not sure. I know the rears require them, but on the fronts?
I'm thinking I'm just going to get new sensors instead of trying to reuse the originals--I'm looking at roughly 160K on what I'm sure are the factory originals, plus I've heard the fronts are a bear to get out anyway.

you need extensions for the fronts, not the rears. the rear o2s should stay exactly where they are.
when you pick up the new ones go ahead and ask for the ones with the extended wires. and yes, it is time to replace them. you only have to worry about the fronts though.
