disconnected muffler = loss in low end :(

so i got frustrated with my new truck (06 f150) and its quiet exhaust. i had the 40 series flows on my '90. so i got under the new one and disconnected the muffler, and now, it feels like it's ALOT slower off the line. did i lose some low end or am i imagining things? it's the 5.4 triton, fyi.

and i've heard alot of talk about magnaflow high flow cats...should i just do turndowns after that? or is there a muffler out there that gives it more of a nice low rumble? i like the way it currently sounds with "open" exhaust, but it backfires quite a bit and sounds a little too raspy for my taste. any help is greatly appreciated.

One outlet or two? When I got rid of my muffler, I lost low end, you're not imagining things, you're losing things If you dual pipes, at least true duals, you could put an X pipe which would help with the rasp and what not. Hi Flows and no muffler, would be loud and a lot more raspy than what you have. You could try your 40 series and hi flow cats.

But a loud muffler back on it. Factory exhaust with muffler removed = un-healthy. Custom exhaust with aftermarket muffler will perform healthier allowing for exhaust velocity to flow freely.

Does this apply to supercharged trucks to? I removed my muffler and it seems as if i lost a little power too.

so am I better off just getting good ol' flows put on? the folks at the exhaust shop suggested cherry bombs, said those would give me back some of that torque but keep the high volume lol

they said they can run true duals with turndowns, does that sound like an okay setup if i get the magnaflows? can i just leave the cats alone?

04 4.6L I am really satisfied so far. It seems to be close to the same volume but more of a low tone.

No muffler, all windows up.

Magnaflow 14158, all windows up.

There are more pics and videos on my photobucket.

Dont go with true duals, just get a SI/DO because true duals will take your performance with a stock tune and intake.
