Going to 3", question about Y.

I'm busy buying everything to go to a 3" si/so exhaust beginning from the stock Y back. Was under the truck this afternoon looking at the stock Y and it doesn't look like Magnaflows Y.

Do I still buy this? Will the muffler shop be able to make it work?

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the stock Y just the pipe from the driver's side welded in to the passenger's side pipe? If that's the case, you would have to cut the pipes back a bit and have the shop extend the pipe and keep them seperate until they get to the new Y. I could be wrong. I'm basing this off of my earlier generation Expedition that I replaced everything from long tubes back. I used that Y pipe as well since it didn't make sense to me to have two 2.5" pipes merge into a single 2.5" pipe. To me, that's like shoving a square block into a round hole.

Sorry, but not sure if I understand your question? What I want to do it go to a 3" pipe at the stock Y and run it into a 3" si/so Magnaflow and it was suggested I purchase Magnaflows Y pipe for the transition between 2.5" and 3", but this afternoon I take a dive under my truck and noticed the stock Y's shape isn't quite like the Magnaflows.

yes you will have to cut the pipe back, away from the original Y, then bend new pipe to where they both become parallel with each other. Then you can use the Magnaflow Y to go from 2.5" to 3".

I'll be calling the muffler shop tomorrow and make sure they can do that, get the parts ordered and go with it. Can't wait.
