Exhaust for 02 F-150

Hey guys,
I need help picking out an exhaust.. Here is some info about my truck
2002 F-150 FX4!
22,000mi
SuperCab, and the "longer" bed. Unsure of the actual size
oh, and of course. 5.4

I'm 16 and on a budget, I have to work for every penny I spend on this stuff.
Dad has a Banks Monster Exhaust on his 07 5.4 F-150.. and I absolutely love it. Quiet at idle and a nice mellow tone, and LOUD when you get on it.
There is a local exhaust/muffler shop and I might go check them out after school.. I really wish Banks made a kit for the 02

Please help me here...
-Tanner

Hello & welcome, sounds like a mint truck! '02 with 22k miles.

I was in your place before ( currently 19 ) and every penny does count, so I will give you my best advice on an affordable exhaust that sounds great.

I vote for you buying a muffler, and tip(s) of your choice, and having the shop install it. Those deals usually run $200 - $300. That way, your getting the tone you want with the tips you want exiting how you want.

If you want some suggestions on mufflers, the Magnaflow 14" SI/DO would always be a great choice, great deep tone, very calm idle, low interior noise. If you really wanna disturb the peace, the Flowmaster Super 44 could do that for you, having quite a heavy idle, minor inside noise, and a thundering acceleration. YouTube around some videos of F150 exhausts to help you better determine what you would like. You can start out with mine listed below my signature.

Hope I have been of help.

Thanks alot!

I am going to look into the magnaflow muffler.. What size exhaust tubing should I use? I know I don't want straight back but maybe have duals going out the side like yours... It looks great on your truck!
Thanks man!

i have a 2002 5.4 79,000 miles and im getting ready to put exhaust on her. im gunna be running the magnaflow muffler with 2.25 pipeing going out both sides about where the stock one is now with stainless steel rolled tips. make sure you go with stainless steel wont rust. i heard this setup on my buddys 99 5.4 and really liked the sound of it real deep sporty sound.

3" mind pipe for a SI/DO and 2.5" for the tailpipes, or all 2.5" or 2.25" for true duals.

Thanks for all the suggestions,
I'd like to do a single right side exit if possible.. like this
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopexd.asp?id=4074

But without the price tag!

Very possible. Is the 24" body what you want? That will be very quiet. You can buy a SI/SO muffler and 1 stainless Magnaflow tip for about $120 or so, and have it installed for $60 - $120 depending on your local shop labor.

What price range are you looking to stay within? What do you want out of it, just loud? Performance? etc

A bit of both, Nothing thats constantly loud though, I want a nice mellow idle.
I was thinking a single rear exit in 3in with a 4 in tip with a 14in Si/So muffler. probley not the 24in though

As for the budget I'd like to stay around $300, the less the better.
