No muffler

i want to take my muffler off and strait pipe out the side, but after doing some research i'm hearing that this might be a bad idea.

is it true i will lose bottom end? and how much? i read about exhaust scavenging issues and such but i just want to be sure before i do it. the truck has four cats and i would imagine that must restrict the flow some what, will they do the job alone, or should i keep the muffler.......i have a cherry bomb vortex on right now

I really wish to know the right answer, so if your assuming, need not apply

It wont be terrible, but performance is always better with a muffler. The velocity from the muffler to back at the cats keeps at a good pressure, no muffler stops that from happening, which therefore fools with your low end energy.

hi-flow cats help increase the flow with pressure, the rear converters are what kill the low end. Mine got better after I pulled the rear cats out, i can screech when i take off WOT now.

cool, thanks bro, went ahead and did it, and to tell you truth i noticed no lag at all, she cruises a bit better actually, just went a smaller diameter pipe to keep it from being too loud, it actually sounds not too bad!

Not sure if I like the idea of no back-pressure & smaller, more restrictive pipe.

ok feller, i went ahead and did it, i had a 2 1/2 cherry bomb vortex, and i chopped the mo fo off, and stuck a 2 1/2 out the side infront of the right side wheel, i really like the sound.........i used a male coupling to connect the new one in to to restrict the sound, it made a bid difference from a female coupling, and a 3 1/2 inch stainless tip. its great...i like it, i and swear not a word of a lie, i gained power, some, may argue but i'm not gunna lie. when your cruising, its not loud at all....and i will try and get some sound clip for you boys, it doesn't crackle to much.......but its nascar-ish foresure.. i like loud, so some will argue......

I took the muffler out of my '06 5.4 and ran a Y pipe using 2.5" duals with 4" tips and my almost has a classic sound with a slight gain in power.

Backpressure is the enemy on every motor but a 2-stroke. Going with the smaller diameter pipe helped keep his exhaust gas velocities high.

I have true duals 2.5" pipe. No mufflers, lost backpressure and economy(.5mpg) but worth it IMO. It' sounds amazing.
