Cherry Bomb Vortex

Hey Everyone,

Recently my Magnaflow SI/DO rotted through and it was time for the replacement. I loved the Magnaflow and had no problems with it, but to be honest was looking for something new. Wanted to try something different. My requirements were that I didn't want to lose power, which I heard could happen, and I didn't want it to be obnoxiously loud. Wanted to keep it respectable but wanted it a bit more than what I had with the Magnaflow. The shop I went to suggested the Cherry Bomb, the Mag, and the Borla. He said he didn't honestly think the Borla was worth the upgrade in price over the Mag. Said they were very similar and if I was looking for something different I should go towards the Cherry Bomb. So I went for it. For the first time, I didn't do a ton of research on here prior to making the purchase. Instead, while I waited for the install, I started reading the forums and broke into a bit of a sweat. The Cherry Bomb doesn't get a whole lot of love on here and I was a bit worried about my jump decision. Now its been on there almost a week and I gotta say, I love it. Love the sound difference. I have the 5.4 V8 so it just sounds full and strong. Nothing raspy about it and has a bit more tone than the magnaflow. This is not substantiated at all, just flying by the seat of my pants but my truck feels more peppy as well. Could just be my excitement about a new mod clouding my perspective. Might just be punching it more to hear the sound. Who knows. Not claiming to be a pro or have scientific support to my claims, just posting my opinion and initial assessment of the exhaust. Being a bit cheaper than the magnaflow, I think its a steal. Glad I went with it.

I guess my only question is what is the concern with this particular exhaust? Is it poor quality? Is it going to go out quick?

Take it for what its worth, but so far I'm a happy customer!

I've known lots of guys who used Cherry Bomb mufflers. Hell, when I was growing up, you could buy a Cherry Bomb muffler at K-Mart.

freekyFX4, your truck is amazing. Would love to upgrade mine to something like that. Too bad money has to be part of the equation!

I've got a cherry bomb extreme si/do, its loud but not as loud as you would expect. It does not crackle AT ALL. Nice mellow tone, pretty loud cruising but after OD kicks in its almost silent. Love it!

I've had my Cb Vortex cat back kit on for about 8 months and I love it. Now combined with maggie hiflows I get some nice rumble and tone at low rpms, but being a v6 it does get a tad raspy higher in the RPM range, but I get a nice popping when I get off the gas. The only thing I didn't like about the CB muffler was that even though its painted its not a high heat paint. I noticed that after a few months the paint was coming off on the top and bottom, in the center where you could see the outline of the chambers and it was starting to get surface rust. I should have sanded it and painted it with high heat paint before I had it installed.

So my fix was just to sand off the rust with the muffler in place and then give it a few coats of high heat BBQ paint.

Thanks, I am dying to lift it but I decided to wait until my 35's wear out. Then I'll probably go with a mild (4"-6") lift and put aftermarket wheels and do 37's.

Wow, yeah that would be incredible. I would love to lift mine, but haven't found the right angle to convince my wife it is absolutely necessary to the performance of the vehicle and the safety of our future family! Somehow she sees right through that.

OP here, just had a question about an observation I've made with my Cherry Bomb Vortex. Since installing it, I notice when I take my foot off the accelerator, there is a noticeable deceleration. Almost like its downshifting. Is this related to the new muffler or something else? Thanks for any input.

If it sounds good to you and you like it then its a great choice

Dont worry about what anyone elses opinion is unless its structural related.

Yeah I love the sound. Very happy with it. Just curious about his deceleration I feel when I remove my foot from the accelerator. Its a very definitive deceleration, similar to downshifting. The throttle response feels great when I hit the pedal, just seems to really back down when I remove my foot from the pedal.

Nearly all custom exhausts will do that, depending on the set up. Mine does it alot with my true duals, I like it though sounds good, atleast it isn't down shifting, running down hill its just running on the back pressure, still in 4th gear overdrive.

Alright thanks. As long as its nothing to be concerned with, that makes me happy. Thanks for the input.
