what sounds best on 4.6

I want to put exhaust on my 4.6 but I ain't sure which will give me the sound I'm lookin for. I don't want flowmaster, but I was thinkin about runnin out the back from the converters without a muffler. Any suggestions on how that sounds? I don't want it to be annoying loud

Which Magnaflow? Which setup?

I, too, want to install a muffler and want to go with a Magnaflow but which one? I want it to sound good, not too loud, definitely no drone. I'm looking for better performance too. Do I just buy a muffler and have a local shop put it on? Do I go with SISO or SIDO? If DO, I would want it out the side, behind the tire, where my factory exhaust is now.

If you don't do a DI/DO, then just replace the stock muffler with a 14" or 18" Magnaflow.

A SI/DO is a waste of money in my opinion.

You will not gain anything with a SI/DO over a SI/SO except looks, so really no point.

And I would only do a DI/DO w/ headers + X pipe.

Magnaflow 14" SI/DO.

I still like my Flowmaster 40 SISO with a complete 2.5" plumbing system. I have had that same muffler on two different vehicles. It was first bought for a 86 Bronco FS back in 2000, but after scrapping the Bronco the muffler was refurbished and installed on my 98 Exp.in 2004. Exhaust plumbing is 2.5", mandrel bent SS pipe from the cat back.

Evere heard of velocity? A DI/DO w/ and X pipe will decrease velocity, therefore decreasing bottom and mid range torque.

Worthless muffler.

No. One of the worst flowing mufflers on the market.

Get a straight through muffler with the sound/brand of your choice. SLP Loudmouth 1 and 2's are good choices along with the Hooker Aerochamber.

I know the system that you are writing about. I had a Loudmouth system on my 94 Pontiac Firehawk from SLP.
I removed it when I had problems getting through emissions testing at inspection. On that I still installed a "Cross-Flow"SI/DO muffler and 2.5" stainless steel exhaust system and had good results in power and emissions (sound).
I would still recommend the system described. I have a Expedition and didn't want too much drone at road speeds, and wanted a reliable longlasting install. The system I recommended serves me well, but I can see your point on your suggestion. I do not see how you figured that the Flow-Master is the worst flowing system;since empirical test done by objective labs show other wise.
The internal construction and materials on both of our systems is essentially the same, or very similar. However I wanted to go with the flowmaster because it has thicker steel plate used in manufacture. I have had my muffler for over 8 years, and it still works fine. That was my criterion.

The construction of Flowmasters and straight through mufflers are entirely different. Flowmasters have baffles etc. which decreases exhaust velocity, straight through mufflers don't restrict flow. I'm sure your muffler is fine. I never said anything about the construction. I'm talking about the performance aspect of it.
