Lazy Mechanic really making me mad
Your mechanic is not entirely wrong.....do some research, he's just trying to save you some money. He's stretching the truth a little to make you understand you won't gain much for the money you'll be spending. The high flow cats are not really high flow, they are just aftermarket. Do some research, there are very few that flow much more than the originals. You'll really not gain anything at all by just replacing the converters. The inside of the converters is basically the same. Take a look at the magnaflows and then compare to the stock one's when you get them changed and you'll see he wasn't lazy, he was trying to tell you that you won't gain much if anything from the money your spending.
High flow cats are legit. The high power super cars they have in Japan 1000hp skylines etc. have high flow cats on them. Matter of fect they would pass californias most strict emissions laws. So take you truck somewhere else that they atleast know what the h*** they are talking about.
derrick you may be right but it was all in the way he came across. he treated me like an idiot and i know a thing or two about trucks. and i did research and asked several people about the magnaflows i purchased. but thanks for your input. i do realize that alot of companies feed u bs but magnalfow is a reputable company and i do want this to be one loud mother so im just gonna cut the rear 2 cats off.
war44, That may be another case then, didn't realize you were more worried about loud. If thats the case, get some long tubes and catless mid pipes! I had Dynotechs with catless mids and it was outrageous! They didn't stay on more than a day or two before I had them replaced and put the cats back in, it was not tollerable.
and im also looking at your signature and just realized your truck must be an absolute beast. I am looking to do some internal mods to my engine but dont really feel like adding a supercharger, I might PM you sometime to get some tips
I'm not familair with the 4.6 too much, so I'm not sure about the headers. I thought Pacesetter or someone made long tubes for the 4.6, could be wrong though, might want to make another post or search for "4.6 headers", I'm sure that it's been covered recently.
Yea i think your right. another guy in town said the exact same thing about the 02 sensors. i think for now ill just go cat back and worry about hi flows when i get headers in a couple of m0nths
ya man i had the same thing happen to me and the guy ending up doing an awful job and didnt even connect my rear O2 sensors, so i had to end up going to another place that new what they where doing to get it done right... Screw that guy he just doesnt know what hes doing and I would not let him touch your cats.
