I keep adding and adding to my truck, and so far after my new tires,programmer, bed liner, and tool box, i can't think of anything except for the exhaust to spend my x-mas money on...

i have around 150 bucks total and want a louder exhaust.... however it is my daily driver, and i do want to be able to hear when i am cruising... i mainly want it louder under acceleration, and moderately quiet while on the highway...

can i just replace the muffler, and use the stock piping to put it back to how it is now.

is it just cut away with a sawzall and clamp the new muffler in place, or have to weld it in?

easy to do yourself?

 

You sound like you'd be into magnaflow mufflers. You could do it yourself with clamps, but it'd be a waste of time. Just order the muffler, take it to the shop, and have them weld it on. It should only cost about $40 for install to do what you want.

Darren is spot on with getting it welded on instead of clamped...it'll stand up a lot better that way.

If you don't want it too loud on the highway, I'd recommend the 18" Maggy. Great sound when you get on it but it doesn't roar too loud at cruise speed.

 

Straights. They have some rumble under acceleration, but it is quiet while cruising. Also, it would be your cheapest option.

yes, i have them and you cant even hear them on the highway.

 

i have a 40 series flowmaster welded in. I didnt want to spend lots of money on the exhaust, so I just got the muffler shop to weld it in.. $120 and im still happy with it. The 40 series combined with a CAI is awesome I think!

 

x2 on that man, my hi flows and true dual straights i can barely hear them at 65, if i drive 70 MINE get to loud for me, but i dont have stock cats so he should be ok

 

My system seems great on highway, not that loud at all, all I hear is a little hum, 70mph seems a little quieter ( no heavy deep note due to higher rpm turning )

 

i have the same set up as jlstang a 40 series flosound and a s&b cai with a xcal3. it rumbles under normal accel and quiets at around 50 or so, but get on it and its pretty loud i guess?

 

what length would be good? 16 or 18" should be decent sounding, i really just want it to sound nice under acceleration, but can be quiet under very low throttle and cruising at 60 mph. i'm hoping to do it this week, where's a good place to go to to buy and install one?

What size tube in and out?

 

There is no 16" Magnaflow, its 11", 14", or 18". The 18" will be mellow and calm, 14" will be mellow and aggressive under throttle and start up, calm on highway, 11" will be mildly loud and aggressive under throttle and starts, minimal sound highway.

Theres also the 22" body but I did not suggest it because it is hardly louder than stock.
