Magnaflow decision time

I have a 97 4.6 with pacesetter full length headers and no cats. I am leaning towards the 14468, which has a built in x pipe. Or an x pipe into two mufflers. Is there any power difference at all between the two set ups? And would like to avoid any drone sound when doing highway speeds.

That will be a good performing system. Stay with the DI/DO muffler over the SI/SO, better performance with the single muffler with built in X.

Well I measured under there yesterday, and the 14468 won't fit where the original y was. The intersection would be down about 2.5 ft. So it looks like I will use an regular x pipe. What mufflers should I get that will not hang down below the lowest part of the frame rail? I am looking at the 5x8 mufflers. I would like to get center on center but... that is why I am asking.

You can use the 5x8 or the 4x9. That should give you enough clearance that you are looking for.

Is your truck like slammed to the ground? My 4x9 mufflers fit under my truck perfect and lined right up to the frame and their tilted to their sides.

Its a 4x4 Darren, so no it is not slammed. Just if I get in rough stuff, I would rather it hit the frame first before anything has a chance to rip the pipes off.

Let me fine tone my question. Do I need to get the offset mufflers, or should the center on center ones work?

You can use center/center successfully.

My X pipe is fabbed into my pipes, right where the left banks meets the right, the sides are cut and the pipes are welded together. Doesn't sound like the best but the sound is balanced pretty good.
