Time for an Intake! Sorry for another intake thread

Hey everyone!

I finally have a bunch of money just lying around so I figure I'd buy an intake for the truck! I have a 2001 F-150 5.4L.

I'm not sure which intake would be best for me. I'm looking at gaining some MPG as well as performance.

I might need an enclosed intake since I do go offroading/mudding in my truck.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

An intake gives marginal improvement without exhaust and a tuner to maximize it's effectiveness. You can only take so much more air in if the engine can't exhaust it. Plus, the PCM can only adapt within the factory parameters to adjust the fuel/air mixture. A good custom tune optimizes the intake, and insures you from running lean.

I already have an exhaust on the truck. As for the tuner I wont be getting that until later.

Your 2001 will be fine without a tune since its a 2v engine and not the 3v, but the custom tune would help unleash all of the hidden performance the factory tune holds back. S&B is a great intake.

I've seen that a few times. I'd rather spend the money and get an actual intake kit.

Yeah I was wondering if S&B is CARB legal.

Doesn't really matter my truck is registered in a different state.

IIRC S&B is pending CARB approval.
